Please report/advise on how long to leave a printer (in the Epson class including the P600, a 13" format) on when one uses it only every couple of days (or a bit more or less often). I just got my university art student daughter a P600 and she needs to get a handle on what a good practice is for conserving ink while also protecting the printer. Thanks for help on this!

Some printers(the better ones) are designed be left on, they then sleep then when necessary, wake up and go through a low level cleaning cycle to ensure you never have a head clogging problem.
Just like us, printers need to stay active to stay healthy!!

My two HP Officejet Pro printers are always on since both of them are wirelessly networked and are used quite often at various times of the day and evening by my wife, son and I for both business and personal purposes. Occasionally they will be turned off or rebooted, but generally they can be on for weeks or even months at a time.

I leave my 2 Canon printers and my Dell printer on 24/7. I never have problems when I print on any of them. They go to sleep when not in use. I don't feel the cost of leaving them on is worth thinking about.

I used to leave my Epsons on all the time, but I now know that you should turn them off, so that they run a cleaning when turned on. I could have saved my Artisan 725 if I had done this. The one I still use clears itself of any minor problems by being cycled. Turn off when not in use is now my mantra.

I have had Epson printers for many years and if I think about it I turn them off, but leave them on a lot of time even though I may not print regularly. For the most part, I have not had a problem although every once in a while you have to go through the print head cleaning routine.

I leave my printers on, they go to "sleep" mode when they're ready. Never had a problem with them.

Two HPs, including one bought new in 2001, and an Epson Stylus 1400: Leave them on all the time with no problems. If I notice problems, I run the cleaning cycles myself.

I keep dust covers on my printers when not in use. They remain off during those periods.

I leave my Epson on except when we go away for a few days.

I have a P600 and R2000....Have had the R2000 for over 3 years and it has been completely off for as long as 3 months...never had a clog or a problem when restarting...the P600 is new...but it has been off on several occasions for as much as 2 weeks....no problem...no clog...just prints like it has never been turned off...keep a good dust cover on both of them and they are in a very low humidity environment....these printers are incredible...

How do you like the P600? I had a 1900 and 2000 and wore them out. I am using a 2880 but the reviews on the new models are very good.

I have a P600, and it's always left on. When I print, which is once or twice a week, it wakes up, goes through a self-cleaning routine and prints gorgeous images. I use only Epson inks, but they can to hard to find, even from Epson. I mention this because I would urge you to buy a full set of cartridges as a backup.

I bought the P600 when my R1800 died. While I thought the R1800 was the bee's knees, the P600 is far superior. There's just more "POP" to the prints. FWIW, I let the P600 manage the color and love the results.

I usually leave my printers on and have not had a problem. About once a month I leave on a business trip of 4 - 7 days. Before leaving, I will turn both of my printers off.
