I occasionally get Friend requests from people I don't know, usually beautiful young foreign women. Their FB entries are short and recent. Obviously this is not a legitimate request, but I'm wondering what the point might be. How do they hope to get money from me?
Yeah, I get those all of the time. I only friend the pretty girls that would like a date. I now have over 3,300 friends - all pretty young girls of legal age. The only problem is that none of them reply to my inquiries. They must be checking out my profile pic.

They're "fishing" for a rich American husband who can whisk them away and keep them in gold for the rest of their lives!
Once they become your friend they have access to more information on you FB page. Things like family relationships, and birthdays. I have heard of people getting calls telling them a close family member has been in a car accident and that they need to get a wire transfer of money ASAP. Most people would be suspect but it only take a couple of hits to make it worth the effort. I have a close friend who received a call from someone who identified herself as his High School Flame. She had a lot of data, she claimed she was in London and had her ID and money taken. She then ask for him to make a deposit in an out of state bank for 5000. Since he was not on top of this kind of thing he did as asked. His bank however was more informed. They made the transfer conditional and caught the caller who turned out to have gotten all of her information off of Face book and his company web site. We all need to be vigilant.

Amazing! So clever, yet they don't put that cleverness to good use.

She'd better cast her line in a different pool. Ain't no gold here.

Those kind of people send out lots of requests, and it only takes a few suckers to take the bait. I've seen plenty of cases on TV where people became convinced they were in love with someone on the internet they had never met or even video chatted with and sent them lots of money.
Used to happen to me and it was almost always a friend of a friend of a specific friend. Instagram is getting pretty bad as well.

Must be the far-reaching effects of your male pheromones Jerry. Ask them for their bank details and see what sort of response you get. Maybe they want to give YOU money

I put them in my Spam folder then delete.
I know people who, in my opinion, put way too much information on their Facebook page. I finally joined it a few months ago and I am thinking of getting out of it. I get these friend requests from people I know which is OK, but then that opens the door for "mutual friend" requests. I have no idea who they are. I sometimes think it is like coin or stamp collecting. How many "friends" can I collect. Weird if you ask me.
The "friends of friends" capability of FB promulgates this problem. Just use an abundance of caution when you get friend requests as you have been doing.
I get those all the time too. I figure they want me for my body since I have no money. Ya good luck with that too.
What's up with the SOO logo? Are you a model railroader?
