I did not know it is not good to add my photos to a reply without permission. I thought I had see others do this. So sorry.😕

I'm not sure I understand what you are apologizing for. Are you saying that you think adding a photo of yours when replying to someone's post is bad etiquette? It is not. People do it for a variety of reasons all the time.

You probably have seen others do that but it's not polite nor respectful. Glad you have "seen the light".

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here. What exactly is not polite? What exactly did she do? People add their photos to other peoples threads as examples all the time.

On this website, we ask that a member requests permission from the Original Poster, before adding a photograph to the OP's thread. This requirement is designed to keep the thread conversation about the OP's photos, and not other member's photos.
One can always post a photo in their own thread.

Pure nonsense, and just a way to bully other users. That is not a rule for this forum even in the Photo Gallery Section.

Posting text or images that assist in the essential purpose of a thread are exactly what a forum is all about. Obviously adding either text or images that distract from and do not add to the topic are inappropriate. But suggesting that all images are distractions is absurd.

An image that is an example showing exactly what the OP asked about can be a great help. But of course by the same token if a thread is in the Photo Gallery and the purpose is only to display the OP's picture, there cannot really be any image that isn't a distraction. People need to use judgment and discretion.

From the rules from Photo Gallery:
- Do not hijack topics by posting your pictures inside someone else's topic in a manner that would divert the discussion away from the original poster's pictures. In such situation, it's best to start a new topic and post your pictures there. It is OK to post pictures when explicitly invited by the OP or when posting pictures inside an existing topic would genuinely benefit that particular discussion.

That repeats exactly what I said above!

It clearly indicates that there is no rule as such against posting images to an existing thread, and specifically describes when posting images would be entirely appropriate: "when posting pictures inside an existing topic would genuinely benefit that particular discussion." (Note that is exactly the same as posting a text only reply.)

Telling new members there are rules that don't exist is not good practice. Requiring people to ask and particularly statements in a signature to the effect that it is inappropriate to post images to a thread are rude and disrespectful.

In fact it is nice when people do ask... but it's not disrespectful when they don't.

I find this thread very odd. Perhaps in the photo gallery posting pictures to someone else's thread may be bad form, but in the main photography forum posting photos on threads is the norm.

Here's the part that is important in the Photo Gallery guidelines:

"Do not hijack topics by posting your pictures inside someone else's topic in a manner that would divert the discussion away from the original poster's pictures."

Understand the intent of the OP and think about your own motivation prior to posting a pic in someone else's thread.

Linda2, please don't feel bad. In fact, my very first week on UHH I also posted a shot to someone else's thread (littlebiddle, another Yakima resident), and I confess now to all who read this: it was because I thought my shot of the scene - water reflections at Roza rec site - was better than his

I see nothing wrong with responding to any thread with a photo, explaing how the shot was taken, and how it might improve the OP's photos. A sorta- here's how I did it. As long as is not a "my pic is better than your pic."
