Lesson Learned(ing)

Up until yesterday I have been frustrated with the lack of focus in my underwater shots. I assumed all along that it was just my lack of technique, poor understanding of how to make my camera work, etc. In desperation, I rented the macro lens for my camera and tried it out underwater yesterday. To say the least, I am thrilled by the results. So, the fault was not mine - though one could say it was mine due to a complete naivete about lenses. I had no idea a lens could make this much difference. Subtle differences, but night and day differences? Just call me stupid (but I'm getting smarter)... :-)

Love your images! I love viewing underwater photos - but am too chicken to try diving. Guess it's just as well that I live in New Mexico - and am too old to even consider being seen in a bathing suit!

Oh, now... you're never too old! We'll put you in a wetsuit - you'll look like Jack Lalaine! Come over to Hawaii and I'll bet we could get you diving - it just takes patience. :-)

I'm glad I checked in on "our" site. Those are wonderful!!! I didn't know lizard fish had teeth and the little eel still looked mean. I just can't make myself like those things. I can't comment on all of them because it's late and I have to get up early, but they are all great. Oh, and don't ever say you'll have a woman looking like Jack Lelaine not matter how ugly or fat or old she might be. (I fit in one or more of those catagories). If you're within reach you would be in trouble. :D :D Oh, and your daughter's a real cutie.

Hey, great shots, I especially like the last one , new species of fish, looks like my daughter also.. The macro really makes a difference if you have the light.. What camera and brand of lense and it looks like you did not use a strobe. The one of the auger is really sharp.

PC,
You are never too old to learn anything, my oldest student was a 74 year old woman. She became a very accomplished diver. Never limit yourself, you will be surprised at what you can do.

How often do we read about good images being 90% photographer and 10% lens? I must confess that every time I read this I have a chuckle and yes you can never make a pigs ear out of an oak leaf but having good quality glass is a HUGE advantage when playing with our cameras. Those are excellent images and a joy to look at.

Kewl, love the Christmas tree worm... clarity is fantastic and the fact you were able to get that close without it closing.. heheh, that's a marvel in it's self..

Have the same problem with the 60mm and 105mm but believe it's just not able to focus on auto.. gets screwy at times and in manual, my eyes are out of focus, heheh, so never get it right
Nice shots...

They are very , very good shots. Crisp, sharp everything!
There's another world down there but I'm afraid with my lungs I'll only get to enjoy it through your pictures. Thank you for that.

PC,
Hi, and let me say this, you are never too old to learn to dive as long as you are in good health. My oldest student was a 74 year old woman who was in my opinion one of the best students I ever trained. I also trained in excess of 1500 students. I have been diving since 1958. Find an instructor and ask if you can take a introductory dive in a pool to evaluate whether or not you would like to dive. Good Luck

George
