Staying with relatives in Redding and would like to take some pics of the lake. Have no familiarity with the area. Can anyone local or familiar provide some directions of what roads to take for some good photo ops? Thanks!

Lazy, I'm not from Redding and we did get a bit of rain this winter but that lake is probably STILL empty. It was the last time I went by there last year.
The banks aren't very pretty when the lake is low.
Better to get shots of Mt. Shasta or stay in town, lots of nice ops in town like the Sundial Bridge and the old railroad trestle etc. Take a tour of the inside of the dam, some very interesting ops inside the dam or go the Lassen. I'm sure a local can help you a lot more. Good luck

Actually, viewed it just yesterday when coming into town. It is close to full.
Still hopeful someone can provide some helpful info asap. Thx!

Since there isn't much help coming from members, have you tried google?

Lazy J,
You might look(Shasta City) locally and see if the boat ride across the lake still takes passengers to the caves on the far side. Several years ago my wife and I took the trip and toured the underground caves. For $26.00 you get a boat ride, bus ride and two hour tour.

Neat the town there are several small towns that my be picturesque and begging for a good photographer, ask the locals for their opinions.
If you need more you can visit Lassen National Park and climb the volcano, climb a cinder cone, tour some lava tubes,(with a large flashlight), and walk underground into some ice caves.
Thank you for your responses. Decided to just get in the car today and do my own exploring for a probable pre-dawn trip tomorrow morning.

Those can be some of the best times.

If you are staying with relatives have you asked anyone local, neighbors, chamber of commerce, coffee shops, merchants?
Good shooting to you,
Dennis

Now your talking sense! Your pictures will be
yours, not copies of what someone else recommends!
A) Go north on I-5
B) Drive around lake
C) Stop every once in awhile and take pictures
There are plenty of wildlife photo opportunities. We saw several deer near the dam.
