After watching the movie Wargames, Reagan asked the question, "could that really happen?" Ten days later he got a surprising answer.

I think that lack of computer security is a major world problem. For some reason, we do not seem to be able to stop hackers.

Too many systems are old and there isn't money available to upgrade or companies don't understand security. Hackers understand how to gain entry. Also, users often don't follow company security policiies. Unhappy employees can ruin a whole system.

Plugging in a USB drive found somewhere is a common way for employees to inadvertently let hackers gain access. Put the malicious code on a dozen USB drives and leave them lying around. Eventually, someone will insert one into a computer to see what's on it.

The Chinese hacking of the Office of Personnel Management was most embarrassing to the American Government. The Chinese Government denied having any connection to the hacking and claimed they made some arrests. The Chinese are cyper hacking blueprints from corporations that make defense weapons for our military. The Russians aren't innocent either. And we can't seem to stop it.
