The subject of compositon in photography comes up here now and then, with a spectrum of opinions, including extreme ones, arising from this subject.
The article linked below provides one of the better discusssions of this subject that I have seen. It has other links, too, to amplify its presentation. The included photographs illustrate the remarks. The article may prove helpful even to some experienced photographers. +++++ Introducing Composition in Photography
"Composition has the power to convey exactly what you want to say with a photograph, guiding a viewer’s eye seamlessly across the frame. It has been called, with good reason, the strongest way of seeing."
I found this to be an excellent treatment of the subject. I thought it to be succinct, interesting and informative with lots of great images and links to add to the material about it.
The part on balance is very well written, I think. Visual weight is not discussed as often in conversations and composition guidelines as the more familiar rule of thirds, leading lines, etc.
A great link. Contemplative Photography is a much under used concept in a digital 'lets shoot it to death and pick the best later' society. I think this is why I love Landscape Photography: There 'the all' and then several 'better images' available. I have to admit that I gave up using the card thinking it was a beginners tool. Will now cut out a new one. I haven't really tried my hand at image manipulation to extenuate textures as such. My eye keeps being drawn to these prints, but my visualisation in the field is lacking. I think a note book and pen is needed and much more pre planning is in order. Thanks for the inspiration to 'get something new'. Thanks Anotherview.
