Yesterday I sat in my backyard for 3 1/2 hours waiting for a hummingbird. Finally spotted one and took a 2 second burst.
Got 2-3 pictures.
I once heard professional photographer, Art Wolfe, say that sometimes he waits 3 or 4 days to get a wildlife photo. That's what it takes. Guess we're all a little crazy, but isn't it wonderful to finally make that capture?
I guess it all depends on if you have more important things to do.
If we could just call them there would be little challenge and less fun. You did good and the time paid off.

Sitting there with a beer and snacks would make it worthwhile.
Nice photos though.

Your perseverance and patience was rewarded. Excellent - particularly the first shot!

Very Nice! If you want to shorten the waiting time, put a Humming Bird sugar water feeder in the yard within convenient shooting distance, they have to feed about every ten minutes. Once they find your feeder you won't have as long a wait, and sometimes will have two or more at/around the feeder at a time.
I reduced these for posting, but no other PP has been done. They were all shot through the sliding door on the patio, and the middle one isn't sharp, sorry! The distance from the door to the feeder is about ten feet.
All three are Ruby Throated Humming Birds; the male has the red near the head.
No crazier than ice fishermen in Wisconsin, Michigan, and other cold hotspots.
