Does anyone know what I need to do to get Lightroom to read my files taken with the D7200? All the file are a .nef. Thanks, Connie
Adobe says you need Camera RAW 9.0 (or later) to read D7200 files.
You can see which version of Camera RAW you have by going to 'Help - about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom' the Camera RAW version will be near the top of the window.
What version of Lightroom" LR4 will not read Nikno NEF files. Lightroom 5 will with the Adobe Camera RAW utility. Lightroom 6 and CC will import Nikon NEF's as DNG files.
I am doing this with LR CC and D7100
I've got stand alone lightroom 5 and a D7200.
Light room does not read the raw files directly, you need lightroom 6 for that.
I use the free Adobe DNG converter on the D7200 raw files, then import them as normal into lightroom 5.

I import NEFs into Lightroom CC, do my culling and processing and only convert the survivors to DNG as the last step in my workflow

For reference, Adobe's table (
http://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html ) says anything after Lightroom 6.0/CC 2015.0 includes the 7200.
Do you have Lightroom CC 2015? If so it should be working fine. If not, what is it doing that is not working?
Nikon NEF and Adobe DNG are identical in all processing respects. Why go through the extra step of importing NEF and then converting to DNG? Lightroom has to take the time to build preview files, which are JPGs linked to the NEF you import.
I do have Lightroom CC 2015. I have the D7000 and D7200. It will read the D7000 but not the D7200. When I try to import the files from the D7200 just shows as gray blank box. When I try import I get a message that says "this file is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom". I have lightroom 5.7.1 and camera raw 9.6. bspraque the link you gave me shows that I need Lightroom 6.0. How do I get the 6.0? My Cloud does not show any updates waiting. Thanks Connie
Your description is a bit confusing. If indeed you have both Lightroom 5.7.1 and Lightroom CC 2015, you are somehow opening the older version of the program. Perhaps you have a shortcut on your desktop left over from when you used LR 5.7.1. When you have it open, on the Help menu there will be an "About Lightroom" or "About Photoshop Lightroom" choice. You'll get a screen that says what you've opened. What does it say?
I should add that if you owned LR 5 and converted to CC, you can continue to use both programs. They are unique and DO NOT share the same catalog so you can't work on the same photo in both.
The first time you open the CC version it would normally give you the option to read and update the catalog you used in 5.7. Once you've done that, any Develop changes you make in the "old" will not show up in the "new".
Be a little careful here. Most after an upgrade, will uninstall their old version when they are happy with the new version.
Not sure why you would have two versions of LR. But yes, I think that is what is happening is that you are opening the older version. I have the most current CC and my D7200 open just fine. I suggest removing the older version.
You guys are correct my short cut is pointing to an older version. I would have never thought of that. Thank to everyone for the help. Problem solved. Everyone have a great weekend. Connie

If you have the CC for photographers, then just do an update and all should be good. That camera has been around for a while and the CC product stays up to date quickly on products made by Canon and Nikon.
