I need a comfortable camera strap

Recently, I reinjured my right shoulder, just slightly. Probably a recurrance of a previous rotator cuff injury. Hopefully, with proper exercise, heat, and rest (Ha Ha!), it will get better. Yesterday I was walking around with my camera (around my wrist) and after about 45 minutes I realized the strain had done a number on my shoulder, which ached the rest of the day. Obviously, I need a good camera strap that will evenly distribute the camera weight. I have done some research on line. There are a number of straps that seem to fit the bill reasonabl well.

Black Rapid appears to get the most positive reviews, and is also the most expensive. The classic, or curved strap (RS-7) seems to be the standard model. Then there is the sport model, Sport R, which is the standard model with he addition of a Brad, an under arm support strap which adds additional stability.

Op Tech also gets good reviews, and is the most reasonably priced. It appears to have a zillion configurations, and I can't tell if it has one configuration with the additional underarm support. The camera appears to attach to the Op Tech with a connector attached to the same traditional metal ring that the Canon strap attaches to. This seems to be a plus compared to the Black Rapid, which attaches to the tripod adapater.

The Carry Speed FS Slim also gets good reviews. However, it attaches to the camera via a plate that is screwed into the tripod adapter. This seems to be something else that can come loose and fall off.

There are a number of others (Indigo Marble, Cams pro strap, Peak Design Slide, and more) which are all very similar.
And, there are any number of Black Rapid kock offs, which look just like the black rapid but are far less expensive. Most of these do not seem to be reviewed, and who knows what you are getting? Who knew buing a camera strap could be so confusing?

I would appreciate recommendations from any of you who have used one or more of these straps, (including the under arm support) or any other that you would cosider a good and comfortable strap.
Thanks.
Steve

I use the black rapid sport and have been very pleased with it. I carry a d750 and it is very comfortable to wear all day without any fatigue. the only compliant I would have is that you need to remove the strap holder in order to use a tripod, but this has not been a major problem.

I have used the Indigo Marble over the last year, my current is the Peak Design. But, ask your Physical Therapist, will an over the shoulder strap, even over your non injured shoulder affect the opposite side? Our musculature is interconnected, weight on one side could transfer to the other and exacerbate your injury.

The most comfortable and less dangerous is .......NO strap !

I use a military web belt with soft lens/camera cases that fit the belt. If the belt gets heavy or wants to slip down get a pair of work suspenders from Lowes and attach and adjust.

Thanks. Do you find the under arm strap helpful?

Op Tech works fine for me. I can carry my 5D MK III w/Tamron 150-600 attached with no problem and I am no spring chicken.

Good point, about compensating for weight on the other shoulder. Will check it out. Thanks.

I recently purchased an Op/Tech "Mirrorless" camera strap and am finding that I really like its design, high functionality and relatively light weight. In the past I have used straps by Peak Design and CustomSLR, both of which fit my needs but not as well as the Op/Tech.

That would be a personal preference, I like it and feel that it helps to keep the strap in place and stable, my wife does not like it and feels it is uncomfortable. If you have a camera store in your area, take your camera and try them both on to see how they feel before you buy one.

Why not simply hang the strap over your left shoulder instead of your injured right shoulder. Will take some time getting used to, but after a while it will feel quite natural.

Thanks. I do have a good camera store nearby and I think I will stop in.
