Xume system question

I'm thinking about getting the Xume system for camera filters. I see what a difference it will make when using ND filters. I'm wondering if anyone has used this system with a polarizer filter. I'm not sure how well rotating the polarizer filter will work with the system due to the magnets. Well the entire filter rotate or will the magnet hold the filter securely in place so that only the front of the filter will rotate as its designed to. I'm not sure if it even makes a difference in the way the polarizer filter works. Any input will be appreciated.

You hit the answer. I found that some CPLs the stiffness between the two elements is stronger than the magnet. Others weaker. In both cases the CPL rotates and achieves its effect.

Not sure about a CPL. My ND filter works fine.
Keep in mind that the heavier filters (77mm) will simply fall off. I lost mine 3 times. Heard it hit the ground and picked it up off the concrete. The forth time I was out at the local Mototrials Event and lost it in the dirt. Never seen it again. I had a clear filter attached. A CPL will be even heavier. So keep an eye on it. If you are walking around, you might consider removing it until you need it.

Thank you. I'll have to remain aware of that.

The other issue is that you can't use your normal lens cap whith the Xume lens attachment without a filter. Xume only makes one size cap for that purpose and if you use other size lens openings, the choice is to either carry it without a lens cap, unscrew the Xume attachment, or carry the lens with Xume and filter and use the regular lens cap. However, if the latter, the filter can fall off especially if brushed against something. I still use Xume system but more selectively due to the previous.

I've had 2 friends who used Xume system and both ended up breaking some filters by accidentally knocking them off. It got expensive. They went to the Lee system like I've used for years, much more stable.

I just put the regular lens cap on the Xume adapter (or vice versa) and it works like a charm. As for the polarizer, ditto: works like a charm and so much better than either screwing it on every time (careful not to strip the threads) or leaving it on all the time (costs two or three stops of exposure). I heartedly recommend Xume.

Never been a problem for me and have been using Xume for about two years. In fact, I have had no problems with the system except that every so often, I forget that the lens cap has an adapter and I accidentally separate the two when removing the lens cap.

I've had Xume adapters on my CPL, ND and UV filters for over a year on my 24-120mm lens. When my CPL was newer, it was stiff and I had difficulty turning it without the whole filter turning, but now it is no problem. I can turn it with one finger against the edge as that is about all I can do with a lens hood on. One issue is vignetting when I am shooting 24 to approx 34mm.

The UV is on my lens all the time I am not using one of the other filters, and my lens cap stays on fine.

I am not sure that I understand. Xume system consists of a lens adapter and a filter adapter. In my experience, normal lens cap doesn't fit over the Xume lens adapter. Which adapter does your regular lens cap fit? That's why Xume makes a special lens cap for their 77 mm lens adapter, but unfortunately not the other sizes.

I've used the Xume system exclusively since I found out about them on this site. I use them on all my lens and filters and never had a problem with the filter falling off, not turning or adjusting correctly, or the lens cap not fitting correctly. I always keep a lens filter on all my lens thus a cap will always be on the lens.

Have you tried snapping the cap on the filter adapter? Believe me, it works. Hope this helps.

I use the Xume system with my 2 Canon CPLs on my Canon F-2.8 24-70 L and my Canon 28-300 L lens. Both CPLs work perfectly, without the usual screw on/screw off/screw on, blah, blah, blah. The Xume system is a quality piece of work. Once you use Xume system you will never go back. Never. I am a huge fan. Did I mention that I also use them on my Canon 500D lens, UV filters, etc.? They all work perfectly every time.

Your a lens cap issue is not an issue with my Canon lens when using Xume adaptors. [ quote=IzzyKap]I am not sure that I understand. Xume system consists of a lens adapter and a filter adapter.
