Hi wrote before, asking if anyone can help me to understand why I cannot download Raw pictures on my MAC. I use "I photo" and I have never had a problem before. I just upgraded my camera to Canon T3I. The JPEG goes in but not the RAW. When I download the pictures it says "Could not download is in an unrecognizable format" PLEASE HELP.

Thank you

First, do not download to I-photo. Open and select your shots with Canon's EOS utility, I usually create a folder either on my External, or Desk Top to download the raw images to. I then use Canon Digital Pro to review and correct the raw images or, I use Elements 9, which has an excellent correction program. The secret here is to launch E-9, then to go to file, navigate to the photo you want and open it, make your changes and click on Done. The changes are made to the raw file and saved in the original folder it resides in. Do your corrections 1 at a time, when done, go back to file and click on process multiple images. Since I send lots of CD's with jpeg images I convert all files in the folder on the fly and save them to a j-peg folder. Now I have both Raw & J-peg's of the images. There is no standard for raw programing, Canon & Nikons are proprietary. As I understand it, Adobe's DNG (Digital Negative) program has been purposed as a standard, it remains to be seen if camera manufactures will adopt to any standard. I use Mac and religiously avoid I-Photo, but others swear by it. I'd be interested in hearing other views as well.

Go to the file menu in iPhoto and select import to library. Navigate to the raw file that you want to bring into iPhoto.

If you wish to export a raw file from iPhoto, go to the file menu and select Export and in the dialog window that appears select original format, this save out the original raw file.

Hi Thank you very much. Others wrote in to try and assist me, but yours was the best. I was able to download my RAW into The Digital Pro. But I am not sure how to edit in it. I do have elements 8 and I just sent for elements 10. Is there a place that I can see the directions on how to work with Digital Pro? Will I be able to convert them back to JPEG if I needed to?

Thanks again I really appreciate you help.

When in Digital pro, go to view and the open tool palette, once thats open, experiment with the sliders to familiarize your self with what they do and how they affect your photo. After that, "Go Crazy". Unless you drop it, you can't break the dam thing so go ahead, push some buttons, change the menu settings and read the book over and over. Welcome to the club, Have fun!

Thanks I have already done that. I want to know is it posible to transfer the photo's to a site that will save in JPEG. I have elements 8 and AdobeCS, I use elements all the time. I like to send pictures and sometimes post pictures on facebook. But they can only be done in a JPEG fomat. I will take photo's in both JPEG and RAW but if I only take in RAw how do I save them in JPEG. Thanks for your quick responses and your help

You may also be pleasantly surprised @ how inexpensive it is to upgrade to Iphoto 11 from the "App Store". I paid, I believe, around $15 and the upgrade was completed electronically instantly.

Yes the new I photo is much better and user friendly. Then I downloaded the new Aperture program and love it. The program recognizes my T3i and raw photos right away and gives a lot more adjustments for RAW photos. The paint brushes work great for fixing bad spots in good photos. For around $10 you can add HDR that works with your aperture to give HDR to your RAW bracketed photos and send them back to the main editing program for finishing. Lots of fun !

Aperture is downloadable for around $80 and HDRtist for $10-$12. The same programs for a lot less $$$ because you do not get the disc just the download and it will work only on the computer you download it on. If you have several computers buy the disc and wait a week for it, otherwise you can have it in less than 5 min with a download.
