Florida version. Summer is here, and the tragedy is that you cannot swim in any fresh water streams, ponds, or lakes in Florida: ALL must be assumed to be inhabited by very large reptiles that would enjoy ripping off your limbs and eating you.

Fantastic image, Steve. You caught just enough for the subject to be recognizable and the mood of danger lurking is awesome. I also really like how it's framed by the reeds. Very eye-catching shot!

Very nice Framing, I at first was not sure what I was looking at, but after a few seconds I realized it was a hungry Florida Reptile. Nice Shot.!!

Great image and a terrifying proospect. Do the gators need ro be culled or moved to a more distance home? Is there a solution you areaware of?

He mentioned the solution: don't swim in the water! Besides, they were there first.

Thanks, Linda - I really thought it called for a heads-on center-of-the image framing - like he's heading right for you!

Thanks. Yes - this was taken at the Viera Wetlands. In more remote areas they do not do anything about large 'gators unless they become a nuisance (usually after someone has been seriously injured or killed). And there is a hunting season now, which helps limit the umber of huge alligators. But because the Wetlands is fairly close to housing developments (half a mile or so) and has a lot of folks walking around, they do cull the alligators when they get up to 10-12 feet or so. I assume that means they kill them - no one wants more large alligators in THEIR neighborhood! One that was about 12 feet walked across the road in front of me one evening last week. I gave him very wide berth! I mentioned him to the operators of the wastewater processing facility (the Wetlands is not a park - it is part of the wastewater treatment facility) and they said they would be calling the trapper.

Great shot Steve, shows just how sinister these reptiles are. We have had two people (1 man, 1 woman) taken by crocodiles here in Australia in the last week.

Thanks! One of those attacks was in the news here. They should not be underestimated, that's for sure! I compare and contrast them to shark attacks - MOST of our attacks here in Florida are not attacks at all but just cases of mistaken identity - when the shark bites the person they realize that it is not something they normally eat and they let go. They are "bites", not "attacks", as the media loves to portray them. Now - I would put great white sharks in a separate category completely - sometimes they bite and decide to let go (which may be little comfort to the victim whose arm or half their torso is now missing) but sometimes they do seem intent on eating the person. Alligators and crocodiles, though, if they go after you, they are intent on eating you, and will not easily be persuaded to let go of you!
