You have to wonder what's going on in the heads of some people.

I was in heavy traffic last week, bumper to bumper, stop and go. The SUV behind me screeched to a halt when I once more stopped. I guess I'm lucky that the driver finally paid attention. On the other hand, what was the idiot thinking? Or not thinking? By the way, I was on my 1977 BMW R100/7 on the way to a Maine camping weekend.

I read that 58% of teenage car accidents are because of texting. When I've been stuck in that kind of traffic, I look around and see lots of people playing with their phones. Self-driving cars can't get here too soon.

Murder is not a strong enough charge as far as I'm concerned.

On the way to the grocery store this morning, I noticed some cars turning right to go around something at one of the major intersections in town. When I got close, I saw that a pickup truck had hit a motorcycle, and the police and emergency responders hadn't arrived yet. The poor rider was laying next to the road with some other folks trying to help and comfort him. His motorcycle was destroyed. Very upsetting. On my way home, city employees were sweeping of the last of the debris and the parts of the motorcycle on a truck, and the pickup was being towed. I'm just praying that he wasn't badly injured. Motorcycle riders are so vulnerable!

People say "I never even saw him." Not much of a defense. If that's your excuse in Japan, the penalty is more severe. When I was a kid, a friend was killed on his motorcycle when a car made a left turn in front of him. That and other events kept me off a motorcycle till I was 49.

I don't blame you. I won't get on one.

My wife was an ER nurse for over 30 years and she called motorcycles "donor cycles". We used to ride all over Calif until she started working in the ER and took care of too many motorcycle accident victims and decided the risk wasn't worth the pleasure. I got broadsided in 1984 after 27 years of accident free riding. Haven't ridden since. I DO miss it, I will admit.

I would love to know this driver's history for violence. If he has any orders of protection against him. Has he ever been charged in the past for child abuse or domestic violence. I suppose that it could be from/or lack of medication or drugs. However my guess is that this man needs a class in anger management.

Maybe all future driving test need to include coping with road rage lessons. More time, money and aggravation for 99% of the population that don't need it in order to fix the dangerous 1% that do.

Sometimes it is not the vehicle driver's fault. Some motorcyclists put their own lives in their hands. I was driving on a two lane road (one lane each direction). I had my turn signals on for a left turn and had slowed down, almost to a stop, to let a vehicle driving in the opposite direction to pass by. I started my left turn when I noticed a motorcyclist coming alongside my vehicle forcing me to come to a complete stop. If I hadn't, my turning vehicle would have hit him along with the young girl who was riding on the back (without a helmet).

From the comfort and I might add remoteness of today's car with all too many internal distractions, the car driver is burdened with what to text, what to listen to, where to go and how...gee! and they're supposed to pay attention to the road and cars and those pesky motorcycles?? We who ride, and I have been riding for fifty-five years and have over two hundred thousands miles under my belt [which really isn't a lot, considering the time] are trained to think of themselves as being 'invisible'. This tactic does help, but the inattentive driver can always fool you. Add to this the current statistic that motorcycle riding is 27 times more dangerous that driving a 'cage' [ a car to you who don't know the lingo]. So why ride? It is the next best thing to flying.
