Yep! Had the same scam pulled on me. Contacted the Sheriff's dept. cybercrime unit. They tapped my line and after a few more calls didn't hear from them anymore.

This is another example of how our government is failing us. Did you ever put your number on the "DO-NOT-CALL list? Well that was supposed to stop the harassment, but it truly is not enforced. The phone company, that you referred to, says they can do NOTHING. Hell !! They're even calling cell phones, they have called mine. If you ever called the number that called you, you get a message that it is no longer a working number. It's trull bull-crap, and seems to be one of those DAILY insults to your privacy, that the government should "DEAL WITH". But won't?? Why not?? RJM

Depends on my mood and time available.
For those selling newspapers or magazines I ask if it comes in braile as I am blind. Usually a quick hang up. If I want some fun I pretend to be interested and waste their time with innumerable questions some totally unrelated until they give up and hang up. Frequently I answer as if I am an agent of the FBI, INS, IRS etc. and the call is being traced so we can get them in the appropriate way. Quick hang up. I got a call from a guy wanting to know if "Judy" was there. I said yes, we are in bed together and she does not want to talk with you right now and wait until tomorrow.
Or as others have said just set the phone down or I say I will sue them and own them by next week if they ever even think of calling again.

BUT!! For all those clever ways of responding.... Nothing has stopped them, RIGHT??? RJM

Yesterday I got the IRS scam phone call. I thought about answering to give them a run-around but had good second thoughts.

I got one a couple weeks ago and they finally left a message with a phone number to call. I called it and it was that IRS scam going around. They were charging me with 3 felony counts of tax evasion, and threatened that I would receive 5 years in prison if I didn't pay the fines. I told them to mail me a copy for my lawyer and he would call them back once he's reviewed the documents. The guy fumbled around a bit making no sense, so I told him to F%#@ Off, and hung up. The IRS have an online form you can fill out to report the scammers, which I did. That was the end of all the calls.

We get calls from an IRS Agent informing us that if we do not call him back we will be under a large penalty. Since when does the IRS call on the phone. All they want is our SS#.

We finally had taken enough of those calls. Got a different number unlisted and unpublished. We gave the number only to the doctors, dentist, insurances, family, etc., those that should have it. Don't get any of those calls now. Cost us a one time fee of $9. On the cell phones I use the block caller feature. It works well.

I purchased the CPR CallBlocker that was recommended by Jerryc41 on this site. Yes, it does cost $99. Yes, it does block the calls. It comes with 5000 known scam phone numbers. It blocks unknown, private and any numbers you want to add (up to an additional 1500 numbers). I have only added 37 numbers and I haven't had any scammers for over two weeks. Unfortunately, the credit card people tend to use many different numbers, 35 of the 37 numbers. But once you add the number, they don't get through. You do have the opportunity to answer (one ring) a "private" number if you want. I recently called a customer service number of a pharmaceutical company. The dummies called back on a private number. The CallBlocker rang once, then terminated. They called right back and I was able to answer. I explained they should change their ways and show who they are on caller ID. They said they didn't know why some people never answered.

This product is worth the money in just peace of mind. I hate those scammers. When you get a Toll Free number, or other, that you don't want, just hit #2. Their ID number is added to the list and they are immediately disconnected. BYE BYE scammers. You do have to answer the phone at least one more time until the numbers are added to the list. Just keep this product in mind in the future. The phone companies are making too much money from these people to be helpful. The "Do Not Call" lists don't work. I no longer have to deal with the phone ringing by bad guys.

I bought this same unit about three months ago (Thanks Jerryc41) and it has worked very well. It comes with 5000 pre-programed numbers so from the first day I plugged it in, the robocalls were cut by about 80%. I have blocked about 40 calls since. Now my phone hardly rings, and the robocalls are down to about three a week, if that. It's sad that I had to spend a $100 to do what the phone companies are too sorry to do on their own, but it was worth it!

On the rare occasion that I actually answer one of these calls, I hang up if nobody responds to my first hello. If I answer the phone and the caller mispronounces my last name, I know it is a sales call or political poll so I tell them I am not interested and hang up. I should keep a compressed air horn by the phone! My dad likes to lead the callers on for about 30 minutes or so and then tell them that he isn't really interested but he just wanted to talk.

A guy with a thick accent wants to log into your computer to "fix" problems that they have detected at their "Windows Technical Dept" Woe to anyone who lets these scammers do that, it will surely cause havoc. Sadly, there must be some who are gullible enough to fall for this, or they would give up. I have received many calls from them. Some guy in a garage in India probably,

I get a lot of calls from the phony Microsoft and Windows people with Indian accents claiming to have Western names. Recently I got a call from "Randy," so I said, "Hi Randy. I'm so glad you called. How are you today?" "Uh, I'm fine." "Great, glad to hear it. Listen, you have my home phone number, but I'm embarrassed to say that I don't seem to have yours. Can I ask you to give my your home phone number, so I can call you up whenever I want to?" Pause for a couple of beats, and then, indignant voice, "Sir! This is my job." I hung up.

The next day I read that these people are not just a nuisance, but are often looking for identity theft info. Later in the day, I got a call from "Sean." So I said, "Hi Sean, I'm so glad you called. Listen, maybe I can save us both some time and get straight to the point. You're going to ask me a lot of questions, but ultimately you'll ask me either for my Social Security Number or my Credit Card number. Which is it that you want?" Pause again, and then, "Uh, your Credit Card number, sir." I guess he gets some points for honesty, but I hung up any way.

I have an answering machine and caller ID. If I don't recognize the caller or if all there is are numbers (usually a telephone number) or if it is blocked/unavailable I let the machine answer it. Most times they don't leave a message, if they do leave a message and I decide I want to talk to them I'll either pick up or call them back later.

When I had time, I'd listen to their pitch and take as much of their time as possible, showing as much interest as I could, until I finally said that I had decided no.

The worst one was the one that constantly called wanting to lower my interest rates.
