What camera would you recommend that is similar to the Canon SX-50/60? I've read that the SX-60 is not as good as the 50 and the 50 is not for sale at Canon.

Used SX50s turn up on ebay and Craigslist from time to time.
By all accounts the new Sony RX10 iii is a great camera but it cost $1500.

Amazon has used Canon SX50s for sale for $270 and SX60s for sale for $350. I previously owned an SX50 and thought it was a great camera. Never tried an SX60 first hand.

Keep watching the refurbished section of the Canon website. They do turn up from time to time and go quickly. I got my SX-50 there and wouldn't part with it for love nor money.

The Canon SX50 is no longer in production and is only for sale refurbished $150, or used higher priced. Canon USA sold out on refurbished SX50 (12 megapixels) in just one day. There are many good cameras to select from by all brands. The SX60 is not as bad as many claim. It has a focal length of 1365mm and 16 megapixels. The only downfall, it's more expensive. $459. But worth it brand new. Everyone says the SX50 is better. How and why is it better? Check You Tube comparison of the two. My eyes saw nothing to determine the SX50 is better than the SX60.

The Fujifilm HS50EXR was my choice in 2012, and after reviewing the bridge cameras since then I would replace it with the same. The price at Amazon has gone up as it is no longer produced (like the SX50). The Fuji is a 42x zoom as opposed to the Canons 50x, but IMO the Fuji's other features win. Download the user manuals for any cameras you are considering to fully understand the differences.

I have used both. For several small reasons, I like my SX60 over the the SX50. Both are better than the comp. Hot shoe, stereo mic in, jpg and RAW, incredible screen, slo mo.

I have both the SX50 and the SX60 and I think the SX60 is better It has more pixels and you can get a better crop, also focus faster .Get a SX60 you will not be disappointed

I looked at the superzoom Canons (SX50) and the Nikon P520.
Then looked at the Fujifilm HS50EXR and the Fujifilm S1
-
I bought the S1 (about 18 months ago) - - and it delivers for the functionality I wanted
Jack of all trades superzoom to 1200mm - and very good in the middle ground.
I definitely like the ability to WiFi upload the recent images to my computer !
I can also tether to my iPhone for remote action (and I think maybe even intervalometer function - but haven't confirmed that)
-
OK - - photos do get a bit grainy above ISO 800 - but ALL in this range do the similar
Fuji S1 will also autobracket which is useful if you play with HDR
-
Yeah - - if I really need that low-light shot, I use my 7D with a Tammy 24-70 f/2.8
But for 75% of the stuff - the S1 is just fine.
And unless you have a bottomless pocketbook - you can forget going to 1200mm with a DSLR

I looked at the superzoom Canons (SX50) and the Ni... (show quote)

I looked at the S1 when it came out with the thought of upgrading from the HS50EXR. I may have to go that route some time, but I prefer the barrel-twist zoom over the push button. I like the capability of f/11 and 1/4000sec that few, if any other bridge has. I'm sure one or more will catch up sometime. One drawback - small sensor. Takes some tricks to get around.

Thanks for all the comments. I got an SX-50. In looking for it, I found several on the used market. I found one on Craigs list locally for sale by a man that had become ill and could no longer use it. He allowed me to try it out and I bought it for $175.
