Fishone - There are over 13 separate reviews of the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro lens available on YouTube, including one or two in German. I'm sure reviews of the lens have appeared in trade publications like Popular Photography and Shutterbug. In addition, the excellent UHH Search tool at the top of this page will bring up numerous mentions of the lens by UHH members. Get a large cup of coffee, put some music on and start working your way down the stack. We'll see you in about a week.

It is an excellent lens, but double the size and price of the Panasonic f4 version which is equally as sharp.

I once owned the f4 4/3 version. It's a helluva lens. I sold it once they announced the m4/3 f2.8 version. Lack of funds have prevented me from purchasing the new f2.8 version.

I have the lens; it is worth the price; I like it a lot.

But...it's an f/2.8 UWA lens, so it's big and heavy (for m4/3, anyway). I'm usually shooting small apertures for optimal DOF.

So I will take the Panasonic 7-14 f/4 if I'm planning for UWA, or the Olympus 9-18 if not. I have added the rear UV filter to the Panasonic because you get a lot of artifacts if shooting on Olympus cameras.

Also, I will often just shoot a panorama with the 12-40 f/2.8 to get ultra wide.

I have similar feelings about the 40-150 f/2.8; I often take the Panasonic 35-100 f/2.8 or 45-150 to keep the weight down. But the Olympus is great in bad light.

Hi jcboy3. When you say that you've added "the rear UV filter" to the Panasonic7-14 lens, does that mean that there's a custom rear filter available for this lens now? I remember reading I the past that some people using this lens with Olympus cameras had made their own rear mounting adapters to do this. Are there now filter adapters commercially available for this purpose?

No, this is still a DIY job. You use the rear filter holder for the Panasonic 8mm, and a piece of Wratten 2A gel filter.

Picked up this lens as part of the Olympus om-d e-m5 mark ii pro kit. It's terrific. As to lens size, if like me you're used to Canon FF cameras, any of these lenses are easily manageable and sharp as you could ever want/need in a 4/3 platform.

KEH has a 7-14 Panny in stock for less than $600.

I purchased mine new at Amazon for $559.00 though it was somekind of a special deal someone posted a link to on m43.com at that time and the batch was sold by the time I clicked the link. However it said that you can sign up if you wanted it at that price in the future. I didn't think it would ever come back but I signed up anyway. What do you know? 4 or 5 days later I had one delivered. This was my 2nd copy. The first one I sold to fund the 12-40 a couple of years ago. I love this lens.

As the others have said, there are alternatives if one does not need the f2.8 speed or the slightly shallower depth of field. It is slightly optically better than the f4 Panasonic, but it probably is not that noticeable in the field. Compared to full frame and ASP-C UWA lenses, the f2.8 is relatively small and lightweight. Compared to Panasonic f4 it is substantially bigger and heavier. Both the Olympus f2.8 and Panasonic f4 are larger and heavier that the Olympus 9-18. The pros on the 9-18 are that it is very small, less expensive, and filters and a lense hood can be attached. The cons for the 9-18 are not as wide angle, variable aperture of f4-5.6, not as shallow depth of field, and not quite as good optically as either the Olympus f2.8 or the Panasonic.

All three lenses are very good lenses. Is the Olympus f2.8 worth it? It can be. It always comes down to what are your true needs and what price one can afford.

Thank you all for your input--decided to order it--it is supposed to come on Friday--Yes I am used to lugging around a FF DSLR--have 14mm lenses for my FF DSLR so I guess this one won't effect me as to carry weight --Got the Olympus instead of the Panasonic since my camera is an Olympus
