Intertesting. I already experienced something similar with my wife's Windows 7 Pro PC a few months ago. It started a Windows 10 upgrade. I had to roll back to Windows 7 Pro. It is the Windows Updates that cause these changes and problems. One has to be careful about the Windows Update setting you have or allow. The only reason I don't want Windows 10 on this PC is that some of the programs we use do not run with Windows 10. My newer PC came with Windows 10 which I love once I learned it.

That is not the only new trick Microsoft is up to. Try using non-MS or major supplier applications with Windows 10. Adobe apps work fine but free-ware...

Too late!
I've been avoiding Win10 for months.
Last week, I turned on my computer, "Welcome to Windows 10" screen.

Thanks for posting. I automatically click on the X and have done with it. NOT NOW! Thanks to you. I'm very happy with Win 7 Pro on my desktop. I was forced into Win 10 when I had to buy a new laptop and I do not like it at all. I've been through just about every Windows evolutionary step since Win 3.1 on a 486 IBM, and did not have the problems with those that I've had trying to do things with Win 10 that were fairly easy to master on prior Windows OSs. I'm just about ready to give up and click on whatever button it is that gives me back the illusion that I have Win 7.

I had no start menu (where the power indicator is located) when I switched over to 10 on my wifes pc, and also the search bar didn't work. I went on to some website and it walked me through the reprogramming. Only took 4.5 hours to fiddle with this upgrade. Upgraded my MAC, took a half hour for the update to load, and worked just fine as have many upgrades before it. I simply will not buy a Windows based product, ever.

That's a shame. As the author said, they're using malware tactics. This is what happens when there is only one game in town. Internet Explorer became an also ran because other web browsers were better. If only we had a real choice of operating systems. I wish Google would develop one.

Don't know where I found this but with win10 - you really don't need things like mcafee and Norton - the blight of our lives for years and what have they ever done for you ? anyone out there who is still paying for their mumbo jumbo ?

I use the free version of Avira. I paid for it for a few years and didn't see any difference. Win10, or not, I will always use some form of antivirus.

I think you can still get Win7 Pro installed by some IT shops; MS still supports it so it should be available. Don't know the cost today but to have my computer cleaned of some virus, Win 7 installed, and the files all transferred cost about $300 a couple of years back; best $300 I've spent on a computer. It came with Win8 which I hated and it locked everything up when I downloaded their "improvement", Win8.1.

When and if, they get Win10's problems fixed, I may try it if I can't keep running the Win 7 Pro.
