Eagles with my new Nikon D500

Just got it on Friday (ordered 2/13 from B & H). Still in the learning curve ... a few buttons in different locations than my old D300. Liking it so far. Got these 2 eagles this AM at Lynx Lake in Prescott. The wind has been nasty ... gusts 30 to 40 mph, hard to hold a focus point. Didn't want to carry a tripod so using a monopod, camera moves a lot. Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 at 500 mm. ISO 320 1/500s.

#1 is an excellent capture. I see that he/she is banded.

Thank you. I have another shot showing a band on both legs? They (whomever they are) have tracked our eagles to Minnesota in the Summer, amazing.

Congratulations on your new camera. Both are excellent shots especially in high winds and using only a monopod. Preference is #1 for it shows the front of this regal bird. Mahalo for sharing.

Thank you, it was a bit tough. I'm assuming you have some raptors way out there. Any eagles?

Looks like that camera and lens combo works well. As has been mentioned, the first image is terrific.

I already have the lens, and hope to get the camera someday.

You have a very steady hand. You can almost read the letters on it's leg band. Thanks for sharing.

Aloha Dave, Yes, we do have some raptors but not like on the mainland. I know of only three (3), the Pueo (which is an owl), Hawaiian Owl and only one hawk which is indigenous to Hawaii. The hawk can only be found on the Big Island, Hawaii, but at one time could be found on all of the islands. Unfortunately we don't have any eagles here in the islands.
