My wife and I were in Florida recently and I managed to be in the right place at the right time, I think. This is one of my captures which I particularly like am interested in general critique. I purposely framed the silhohette of the tree and rocks in the photo to add a bit of depth and scope for the shot. Also, if you look closely, there is a bird (blurred by the slow shutter speed) in the upper left side. Does this detract and should I take it out? Otherwise, I would like to know general critique and opinions for this shot. I don't know about the rest of you but when I look at a file for a while, it is sometimes difficult for me to be objective and see what can be done to improve something. Is it too dark? Are the colors too saturated? This magnificent sunset had these colors for literally 2 or 3 minutes and changed significantly after that so I feel pretty lucky to have captured this. Thanks in advance for any critique.
you need to check store original so it can be downloaded

Great composition. Blurred bird does nothing for view. It is just touching on being too saturated to me, especially the water. Ever so slightly brighter would be better, and I mean just add a bit more brightness or exposure. I like the moodiness and silhouettes. I tend to go for an unprocessed look. Though I know that is likely a minority view these days. I usually strive for my own digital images to look like that best of film (i.e. larger format film as well). Nearly perfect now.
Have you tried for comparison different White Balance or Color Temperature settings in camera (for jpg) or in PP ACR in Ps or Lr (for Raw). Could shift the colors around for alternative interpretations. Good work.

No need to pixel peek for this.
Nice work, Paul--great colors and composition. Personally, I'd ditch the bird.
Just stunning wish i was there for that sunset.

IMHO, this is the one failing of the new interface upgrade, the additional steps to add an image then save and post.
Thanks everyone for the input. I'll go work on it.
Great Composition in this shot. leave it alone.
[quote=346pak] I like it because of the silhouettes. I have seen very few sunsets that I like without the silhouettes. I prefer a 4 x 7 format that seems to be a bit wider than yours. I did not measure it. I also like "store original" downloads best. My only other observation is that this picture is heavy on the right side. Too much black makes it lean to the right. Your name totally distracts from the picture. David

I liked the soft colors ;)
