LR 4 is a speed disaster. Adobe knows they released a snail when it comes to workflow.....and with the flood of complaints, they will get it fixed. (PLEASE SOON)
Hopefully, now that CS6 is no longer in the beta state and the real deal is here, BRIDGE can pick up where LR4 has disappointed.......
Currently, we have been importing with LR4 for the file management assets....but using Bridge (CS5) to work on the images.
Now, it's time to load all of the plugins in CS6......that will take a day or more to get running right.
I'm thinking about getting CS6. Currently using Elements 8, LR2, Got Corel Painter 11- too advanced for this dummy, someday I'll quit cussing at it and figure out how to use it.
I would recommend signing up for Lynda.com for a month. Then take their "Fundamentals of CS6" course. It is a several hour course that will have you up and running.
There are a number of sites online that offer different tutorials as well, Kelby Training, and Adobe has it's own learning center. Many of these come with a fee, a few do not. This is probably something you already know...but just in case!
