This house was built in 1850 and has been taken down this year, been abandoned for quite some time. I know the fellow who does these jobs and am a client of his and he gave me about 300 handmade cedar shingles which I am using as a photo project

Long history there Joe. Back in the beginning the fellow there, Mr. Atkinson from England was I believe, in charge of driving wood down the Chaudière River to the St. Lawrence where in wass boomed and later shipped to England for shipbuilding purposes. It was a good 30 mile drive to a place called Breakeyville a few miles from the St. Lawrence where it was transported by land because of a big waterfall there.

I was most impressed by the photo of the joints where the two boards meet. Much different from what we see today.

Yes Rich, back then they did it right...the proof. it is over 150 years old. Now all the wood used here was local and the entire house had pine boards 1 1/4'' thick, about 8'' - 10'' wide and 10' - 12' feet long and still are in perfect condition. He recuperated them and will sell from his old three story wooden warehouse so far out back in the Appalachins up here that the town has no zip code LOL
