Not the most technically sound or artistic shot, but after hearing the big green darner nail the blue guy in the air and fall into the tall grass with him, I ran over to where they were and saw the green one munching on the blue one. Had the 60mm macro on and had to dig through tall grass to find them. The green ones are about double the size of the blue ones and are obviously cannibalistic. My other endeavour is fly fishing (tie my own) so I have developed an (unhealthy, my wife says) interest in dragonflies! He flew off with his dinner soon after the shots.

Good that you spotted the whole process and were able to grab any kind of shot. Mother Nature doesn't always want to cooperate when you are trying to get a shot. To me not bad for what it is. Thanks for the backstory without it I would have had a tough time figuring out exactly what was going on.

good gosh but that thing is a MONSTER!. Today I went for a walk to the creek with my labs and a giant toad met it's demise. I was glad that the camera was left home, there is just something wrong about the those long legs dangling out of a dog's mouth. It required 4 treats for my girl to surrender the toad. It got scooped into a large coffee mug I had with me, and it was so large it barely fit (it hung to a length of about 8 inches). I hope my lab found it already mangled, she has never gone after toads before. But regardless, mother nature is harsh - some things are best forgotten. Sorry for my rambling,

Yes, the things some animals do is unexpected, or expected. We used to have Siberian Huskies, the breeder we got our first dog from told us that when he first moved into his new property his big male when to the neighbours farm to see what he could see, the breeder was met by the farmer saying that Shiloh, the big male, had got into his chicken coop and he wondered how many birds were left, Bob our breeder said none, they will all be dead. Sure enough, Bob had to pay for 48 chickens. Huskies have this thing about birds, just do not care for them. I'm sure your lab found it deceased, lets hope so.

Dogs and birds -- we have some pileated woodpeckers that hang close to the ground and they will fly 50 yards through the trees at an elevation of about five feet. My dogs will chase them when that happens - it is too funny, I think the woodpeckers lead them on a merry chase just for the fun of it, and me, trying to sneak up on them for a shot.

But you are right, dogs are not always the easy going peaceful things we want them to be.
