Help with Canon PRO-10 printer

I have the Pixma PRO-10 printer; have been using it for about a year now. I use it primarily for 8.5 x 11 and larger prints. I use a Pixma 892 or something like that for smaller prints. I've got kind of a love hate relationship with this printer. When it works I love it, the prints are beautiful. When it doesn't do as I expect, I hate it, well, maybe not hate, more like dislike. Here's the issue and also where I need help. I don't know a whole lot about printer profiles and the profile my PC is using for the PRO-10 is some sort of generic profile. Sometimes, especially when I'm printing animals, the colors are fantastic. Other times, usually when I'm printing people, the skin tones are off, usually a bit too dark or maybe a bit reddish. I use Canon luster and Canon semi-gloss paper and Canon ink, and (supposedly) 100% compatible ink. How do I get the printer to print images as I see them on the PC (laptop) screen, all the time?

Is your screen calibrated?

No. It's an HP laptop, don't recall the model, it originally came with Win7 and now runs Win10.

First thing I'd suggest is calibrating the screen. When you say "(supposedly) 100% compatible ink", does that mean you're not using Canon-branded ink but instead using a third party? If so, have you tried printing the same images with Canon ink? There are enough variables which could be causing the issues.

I'm at work so I don't have an ink cartridge box available but, according to the inks manufacturer, it's formulated the same as Canon OEM ink and pigments. The main difference is the cartridges are refillable. These cartridge aren't a whole lot less expensive than Canon but they are refillable. The printer currently has 6 Canon and 4 aftermarket cartridges in it. The unexpected results occur both when there are all Canon cartridges mounted and a mix of Canon and aftermarket.

I suggest that you drop by the Printers and Color Printing Forum at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-120-1.html to further discuss your Pro-10, as well as monitor calibration, which will make a considerable difference in matching print color to monitor color.
