Just recently returned from the South Dakota where we visited Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, the Badlands and even Wall Drug. Had a very nice time with not that many "fellow tourists". A very nice time of the year to visit with lots of spring time greenery. Can't imagine what this area is like in the heat of the summer.
The following photos are of Crazy Horse Memorial which is located in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills. The Mountain is 6,532 ft and ranks 27th highest mountain in South Dakota. It is made of pegmatite granite and was chosen by Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski & Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear for the Crazy Horse Memorial. The memorial was started in 1948 and it will be decades before it is completely finished. If it is not on your bucket list, you may want to reconsider. Once completed, it will be the largest stone sculpture in the world.
whoo awesomely huge, great shots.
Well done, good shots and narrative. Makes me what to extend my next eastern road trip. Thanks!
Very impressive looking stone carvings and you have certainly captured them well with your photographs.
Well taken.
Very interesting set. You can see that the sculpture is in there waiting to be brought out!
Nice shots. Yes, there is lots to see here in SD. And this year we've actually had a real spring with nice weather. Usually in the 1st 1/2 of May we are dodging spring blizzards and the 2nd 1/2 the thunderstorm season has gotten underway. So far this year it has been too dry. In the middle of tourist season it can be hot and very crowded! You came at a nice time. We visit the tourist places before the crowds and after Labor Day...much more pleasant.
A very nice set, along with the description.
No.5 Is very useful to show what the final result will look like.
