I have been in a bit of a panic and I'm not sure what to do. I updated my computer to Windows 10 and now I cannot locate most of the photos I dearly love on my computer. It says something about "permissions" when I click on an "empty" photo towards the bottom of my photos. I really would appreciate some help. Thanks HOGS. rpm
You shouldn't have updated . . . and this is why I don't....
I updated to Windows 10 and lost none of my photos or anything else and that is on two computers.

Not criticizing. I'm just telling you why I didn't and why I won't. I've heard so many problems with upgrades that it's not funny. I don't have a problem with Win 10. I think it's a very good operating system and that it's probably better than 7. But I don't what the headaches you are going through along with so many others. I wish you luck in fixing your problems.

I have a similar problem.
My photos on Win 7 were stored in 2 'master' folders. Pictures and My Pictures.
Windows 10 seemed to have ignored My Pictures (which coincidentally were the older ones) and all I have now is a folder called 'Pictures'. No: My Pictures.
When I do a look at them in Elements, the thumbnails are there but try to open them and the computer says they are unlinked. Further searches indicates they are gone.
Fortunatley I do hve a backup on a separate Drive.
No help to you I guess but youre not alone

Tony, i have read that you can go back to your old program only within 1 months time. I'm about to try that, but I know its more than 1 month for me. I feel your pain. Thanks though, rpm.

Thanks for that. Tried that but am out of the 1 month and the backup to reinstall Win7 seems to have disappeared.
Microsoft not giving a second chance!!
A brute force approach would be to open File Explorer, click on C: Drive, and search (upper right) for *.jpg (assuming you are looking for .jpgs). Might take a while but it will show you if they are still on the drive. Find one you recognize, right click on it and select "Open File Location" near the bottom.
go to my pc..double click and scroll down to old windows file.open this and look for user..double click then head towards pictures folder....assuming the install kept the old windows version..
Why go though all of the gymnastics of trying to find them; just restore the photos from your backup.
That's not very helpful or representative of most who have done a trouble free update.

Where were your photos stored on your old Win version? Did you back up your system to an external, hopefully? Just trying to help, not criticize. I believe that even though your "30 day revert back" to former version of Win has expired, the file, "Old Windows" is probably still there. I deleted mine after several months of trouble free running of Win 10. Don't give up and good luck.
