Change is hard. But change is good, once you get used to it.

Remember when phones had physical keyboards? Steve Ballmer of Microsoft made fun of the iPhone because it didn't have a physical keyboard. One BILLION iOS devices later, where is he?

I think the new format is fine. No doubt, it will be refined a little, based on initial user feedback, but it works for me. It's WAY better on the smart phone.

Dick,
Like anything new, or different, it takes a bit of "getting used to". I'm still not a fan of the "Texaco outhouse yellow" colour of the pages. The admin and I have had a few exchanges about that, but as you can see, it's still yellow.

I can understand the philosophy behind the format. There are several ways to approach the problem of adjusting the page to work on desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. Some of those methods require the site to have intelligence to know what the visitor is using to view the site, to say nothing of the various browsers that could be used.

Like many other things that change in our lives, it just takes a bit of practice and acceptance. It's not going back to the old style. It's like purchasing a new camera. The new one isn't going to work exactly like the old one. However, one will get accustomed to it and then start enjoying it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm like a lot of other people. I'm not fond of changes in my life. But, they happen. The good part is you're still here among friends.

Well, confusion - cured by experience, too much scrolling on my desktop screen slows down skimming entries, will have to apply more filters and will then miss even more good stuff than I do now. But the tablet/smart phone crowd are happy as hogs in the feed shed.

Oh, and as to keyboards on phones, I hate the on screen keyboards, I have a blue tooth keyboard for my tablets which I seldom use, I use my laptop or desktop when I need to type. And as to my new smart phone (Galaxy S7) which I got only because it runs my Canon remote app, I hate the on screen keyboard, my fingers are too big so I now have to carry a styles, which can get lost pretty easy, maybe I'll buy them in multi packs from Amazon or Walmart. Our special needs son breaks or loses them regularly anyway, I'll just buy bigger multi packs if needed.

I, personally, do not have a problem with the page color. I find it much, much easier on my eyes than white.

Haven't been online much since the new format appeared. But must say I hate the inefficient use of space. Tons of blank real estate on the screen, which forces lots of scrolling, which seems really inefficient. Also hard to see who the original poster is in one's buddy list when displaying the newest topics. Would be nice it the user ID was in bold, or a different color, or something. And all this to make it easier for people accessing the sites with smart phones?! Can you even appreciate photos on a smartphone?! I don't hate change, per se, but so far I just don't see this change as an "upgrade" for most of us.

I'm not a fan of change for the sake of change, but sometimes there are reasons for change. The new format is supposed to be better on mobile devices. Since I don't do UHH mobile, my view is only on my laptop and desktop and I can't comment on the mobile stuff.

Personally it doesn't bother me. It could use a couple tweaks but nothing really significant stands out to me. But then I'm starting my busy season when I don't have time to be online much so I'll probably have more opinions after mid-November.

I'm honestly trying to give this new format a chance, but it simply isn't aesthetically or functionally pleasing, to me. I'll be significantly curtailing the time I spend here, due to the current format's growing lack of appeal. In short, it sucks rocks, but I have other options.
