You probably need to upgrade Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop to get it to recognize the RX100iii files.
Adobe says the RX100iii supported in version 8.5 of ACR

Adobe Camera Raw ( and, I presume, the latest iteration of Lightroom) is an exceptionally versatile raw editor for ATW files.

Make sure you look for updates. If you're not up to date on PS or CR they may not recognize the RAW format of your camera. I have a Sony and it works fine.

You probably should search, either on Sony's or on Microsoft's website for "camera codec". This kind of problem usually occurs because of a missing codec.

That being said, I generally use Raw Therapee for raw conversions - however, if for some reason I want to recover what the camera would have produced had I shot in JPEG then I would use the Sony tool. Any other tool will produce something a bit different than the camera would have.

Take a look at "Capture One" (version 9 now available)
they have a special arrangement with Sony and you can get version which is cheaper then the normal one and designed for Sony Cameras. It can be used for computer capture also. I use the pro version but yo might not need it. free trial also available.
and i't a great.

Try Capture One Express for Sony....it is free.
I use it for my A850.
NOTE for Windows you must have 64 bit processor...Mac is 64 bit

Yes, Capture One Express for Sony as it is free. Also, Capture One 9.1 for Sony for $50 is a great buy.

CO takes some learning and I do not have complete understanding. CO has good webinars that show certain aspects of the program, then these are put on the Phase One YouTube channel.

CO is designed differntly than other PP programs. CO works at the RAW level and is camera/lens specific. CO did their own work for each camera and lens. Meaning they make at about 700 images in various situation to make their calculations for adjustments. They do not just rely on the manufacture specs.

Capture One is worth a look.

Depending on the version of your Photoshop, the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in may or may not be upgradable. I am topped out at Photishop CS 4 and it is no longer supported, so no ACR upgrades. My only option was to get the free Adobe DNG Converter. There are a variety of versions to fit whatever PS version you have.
