Hi everyone,
I have a Nikon D 7000 and would like to buy a used Macro lens. I am looking on E bay and there are several Nikon 105mm f 2.8 lenses for sale but some have a D after them and some have Al - S AlS after.
So my question is are there different editions and variations to the Nikon 105mm f2.8 and which is the best?
Thanks
Bill

You want the "D" or the "G" version for your D7000. They will AF as well as communicate electronically with your body.

Thanks MT-I knew either you or Nikonian72 would have the answer.
Bill, here is probably more than you want to know about the Nikon 105 micro:

ALL versions of the Nikkor 105-mm macro lenses enjoy sterling reputations.

The 105D is A-F but no VR, introduced in 1990:

The 105G is A-F & VR2, introduced in 2006:

I had the 105 2.8 D macro lens. It was the best lens I ever owned. Cried when I sold it in order to buy a VR lens. Getting old can be a pain in the ***.

Exactly why I upgraded from 105D to 105G. ALL of my field macro-photography is hand-held.

I recently got this one on ebay - Nikon Micro 105 mm F/2.8 AF-S VR ED G IF. (I had to cut and paste.) Fantastic lens. There are three version of the Micro 105mm, and this is the almost-newest. There is a VR II version, but it is basically identical to the VR I. Read the review at kenrockwell.com. He explains all three lenses.

I had an older 105, but I like this one better. It's a good general purpose lens on my D7000, and it's also a great macro.

This is my favorite lens...fantastic for macro and portrait..I love it!!!

I have to 105 F2.8G ED nano

I also have the Kenko tubes and they work perfectly with this lens and get micro close.

MT. Your knowledge of photography equipment and how to use it is just amazing and also the way you explain it in your "Folksy" style is just great, you deserve an Oscar for it. This from an old man who used cameras and was in retail for about 65 years. Keep up the good work.
Got a smile out of your explanation, they lenses will communicate with your body? Not the cameras body? LOL. :-D :-D :-D

Hello Busby----It has auto focus, but no VR

We would have to look up about compatibility with your D5100

Where are you located? yes, it is still available

continue with my personal email address, jtaggart@innernet.net

This should be interesting, since you are both "in hiding."
