I hope this is the right place for this.

I know there are a lot of Kindle users and potential Kindle users on this forum and I just got the news: the new gen of Kindles are out. They look pretty good.

yes, they have ... and more features too. But I'm invested in the previous version so I'll hang onto mine, but eventually, the new ones look pretty nice.

My daughter is drooling over the Kindel Fire--- I hope it is water proof- I plan on buying it for her for Christmas :)
Julie's in College so I am thinking this will be a great gift.

It IS a great gift for anyone that loves to read or, for that matter, HAS to read (like college students!). I love mine. And now, instead of carrying a half ton of books with me on vacation, I carry one kindle and a whole library with me ... in one, small, convenient package.

The new ones look so nice. I just have no legitimate excuse for buying another round of them (got one for me, my son, and my husband!) The ones for the husband and son were presents. They do make great gifts.

$79? wow have they come down in price. I have the nook (the one before they got the colour versions). I love it.

I wish they had a $79 version, I would so upgrade for that price.

I think it's got adverts. They aren't intrusive, but they are there.

I just purchased a 9 inch Kindel and need to say,I miss having the color option. I suppose I need to save up and get the Fire. Sure wish I knew about the Fire before I made that purchase.

I can't even remember how many times I've bought something really expensive -- a computer, a car, a camera -- and the next day (or very close to it), the next gen is out. Needless to say, I have 3 of the gen 3 Kindles and while I'd love to get the new one, the old ones work just fine and have both 3g and WIFI. For the rest, I have computers.

If I find myself with money to spare, then maybe ... I love new technology, so I have to watch myself, otherwise I'll just buy everything!

I love to read, but I can't. A Kindle would be dangerous to me. Once I get into a good book, I can't put it down. Which was find before I had kid's ......now I have to stop every 15mins. Tend to them, or do something else. Saddly, I find it better just not to open a book. I guess I'm an OCD, single minded type of person when it comes to reading.

I didn't really read books for a few years when the kid was really young, but once he went off to school, I rediscovered them. It isn't forever ... just a break. They'll be making Kindles or their successors whenever you are ready :-)

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and use it all the time. It has the Kindle app and I love It. I am sure the Fire will ne great also. The 7 inch size is much more portable than the ten inch tablets
