Finches are a bit like F1 cars, they don't hang around in one place for too long. I was shooting in an aviary in lowish light and many of my shots were of where the little rascals just were.

I did manage to jag this one right at the moment of takeoff though.

This ts the type of bird photography I most appreciate - capturing the bird in action, presented in a unique manner! (In contrast, images of birds sitting on branches doing nothing interesting at all are usually forgettable and boring.) I also find the square format you have chosen to be quite refreshing.

Thanks rook, I'm with you regarding birds on branches and if I want to see what a particular bird looks like I can always look in a book on ornithopters, (or whatever they call themselves, :-D :-D :-D ).

This, I admit, was a fluke, as I have nor longer either the patience nor the reflexes to purposely capture such a shot.

Thanks for looking, Rob.

Thanks, Dave, in order to capture this moment I spent many hours of planning and metering and much swatting of flies to polish up my reflexes.

The bird and I then managed the result you see here in only twenty-three takes!

I'm very glad that you like it because some have suggested that an good sized print would be perfect for wrapping food scraps. :-D :-D :-D

Cheers, Rob.

Please note that the camera focused short. I know getting proper autofocus on something poorly lit and moving rapidly is difficult.

Be nice because cameras and computers have a way to get even with you.

Better get an easel, an empty canvas and a palette with oil colors.

love the splash of focus and light and color of the head. You definitely make the case for multiple rapid shots from one press (whether you did that or not) to get this kind of thing. Very cool work.

Very cool shot Rob. I'm with Rook in that I don't really care for static wildlife shots.
