I am looking for a small camera that I can keep with me when I don't want to lug around my D5. I might use it for landscapes on the way to work or any opertunity to get a picture when I am not out specifically on a shoot I would like to spend about $200 but have a feeling that I will be disappointed with the picture quality if I don't go to 350-400. Any suggestions?
Consider this camera that has a Leica lens. Great Zoom capability and super picture quality.

Great suggestion, Pixel Stan. I have the LF1 which is similar to what you suggest. It is a great camera and the quality is excellent.
Great minds work in the same path

Canon G9 X. I own and use this camera. It takes quality photographs; in fact, I'm considering setting up a gallery on my photo Web-site for photographs taken using this fine little camera. See pictures below done with this camera.

It all depends on how you interpret "picture quality". The way I see it, if you work within the limitations of the camera, just about any camera can produce quality pictures.

I have the Panasonic TZ30 (ZS20 I think in US) & love it. It goes withus every time we're out for a walk. I've had photos displayed on local TV & in local paper - most are with this camera as Nikon D7100 is a little heavy for much carrying.

Let's see
You own a $6500 D5 but you want a camera in the $200.00 range to always carry with you for taking photo's when you don't have your D5. Is that correct? Good luck. My only recommendation would be the Sony RX 100 II camera mint on eBay, around $500.00 It may even outshine your $6500 thingie.
Thanks Stan. Ordered from B&H today Free shipping delivered tomorrow
For a pocket camera I was advised to look at the smaller Canon Powershots. I found the A1400 as a refurb from Canon for under $100 about 3 years ago. It is 3.75 in wide, 2.5 in high, weighs in at 178 g (6.3 oz). It has an optical view finder and takes 2 ordinary AA batteries. The sensor 16 Mp effective, diagonal about 11.04 mm, aspect 4:3, largest image - 4608 p by 3456 p. I do not know the pixel bit depth.
My D5 is a M3. Paid $2300
My pocket camera is Olympus Stylus XZ2; image quality, functionality are great for all kinds of shooting situations.
