This is overexposed and a bit grainy. I didn't want to remove to much noise or I would lose detail.
Fighting wind and dust storms was not fun but seeing the transit was worth it.

Cool Jim!
Flames and Dames.
What camera?
I got a late start, and had to run my imaging by hand. Huge PITA!
Next chance is November 2019... :?

Nice shot Jim I'm glad you got to see the Transit in spite of the obstacles..

That surface texture is so cool. At full size Mercury looks like a close-up of a freckle...
A question. I see you have the Tamron 150-600. Did you get it before Sigma released their Contemporary 150-600? If not, why did you chose the Tamron as they are so similar and same priced?

Thanks you very much.
Sorry I missed this question and just found it.
I bought the Tamron from another Hog and at the time it was a pretty good deal.
I was not aware at the time that Sigma was going to release the contemporary.
I wish I had been able to shoot the Mercury transit with the knowledge and video cam that I have now. That would have been awesome.
I have been very satisfied with the quality of shots I get with Tamron.
It is a very sharp lens for me even at 600.
I am going to attach a baseball shot from last week that was taken from just beyond 3rd base of the catcher at 600mm.
I converted it from color to black and white and saved as JPG. Just a little bit of tone lighting to get the feel I wanted and no cropping.
I was very happy with it.
