I'm looking to buy a Nikon D7200 and leaning towards the grey market to save money.
Has anyone had experience with grey market purchases and besides the warrantee issues what are the other cons?

There are tons of posts about grey market. Just use the search tool and type grey market.

The only difference is repair work, but recalls would be covered. Independent shops can get minor parts, but Nikon sells parts only to authorized shops.

Try used or refurbished.

Check with Nikon. They may no longer sell parts to non-authorized dealers and forbid authorized ones from service gray market. You are better off buying used from a reputable dealer. What you save with gray market may be less if you have a major repair. Think very carefully about this.

I worked for a retailer for years. The important distinction, and the reason it's cheaper, is that it's a direct import. The USA distributor is bypassed. As such, they are not obligated to honor the warrranty. Some companies have been rumoured to make exceptions. I have never encountered this.

I think what you may find is that some gray market dealers won't let you have the camera for the advertised price. They try to 'upsell" you and if you don't take extra stuff at a higher price, the camera suddenly becomes "out of stock" for a long period of time.

Don't ask me how I know....😡

Some non-authorized dealers may be OK to do business with if they're "up-front" about an item. In which case you can purchase an optional warranty.

I never had the experience of buying grey market but I know they usually offer this.

That is a new twist on bait and switch. A new caveat emptor.

What is peace of mind worth for you when you buy a camera? With gray market you need to send it back to where you bought it and then they usually send it out to a repair place, etc, etc. Two months later you get it back and it still is not fixed. To me buy from an authorized dealer.
Here is a refurbished from a reputable dealer.

If you are willing to overlook the warranty issues and the "hard sell" by many of the gray market retailers, go ahead. It's likely you'll save a few hundred dollars going gray market.

You pays your money and takes your chances.

Have you checked Nikon's refurb site? They are currently advertising D7200 (body only) for $1,000.

You could also check Cameta Camera. Their refubs have a 1 year warranty.

Warranty? There is none. But, chances exist that you'll need to get it repaired/calibrated at some point in time. Where? Nikon won't do it.
