I think these are nice intimate images. Yes you can see detail. And yes, you do not have to shoot the entire bird/animal. Cropping is effective and accepted. That being said. Image II is quite centered. His/her eye would be most appropriate if it was in the intersection of the upper right quadrant. That remains true for image III. On III, I would have also shot more wide open to further blur the background as found in image II.

Mark, thanks again for looking closely and commenting. Not to be defensive, but in response to your comment on image II; moving the eye to where you suggest would have the beak tip out of the frame or I would have to back off - and this is not cropped. Besides that, I like the eye dead centre on this one - courses for horses. Similarly, with III moving the eye would require cutting off part of the pouch or the greenish feathers on the back. Of course I could have shot them with the eye in the locations you suggest, and I did. But they are different pictures which you may see later.
