Installed windows 10 everything looks alright but I have lost the sound any help to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated Dick Duffy
I'm no expert on Win10 but I have been using it for a few months now. Have you looked at the sound "Sound" window that you can access from the control panel? Type 'control panel' in Cortana (the search window in lower left corner of screen) when it shows, up left click on 'Control Panel desktop app" and it will open, find the Sound icon (a speaker) and left click on it. A Sound window will open, select the "Playback" tab if it is not already open. You will see a list of all of the 'playback devices' installed on your computer. One of them should have a green check mark beside it. That is the currently active device. If none have the green check mark, right-click on the one you want, probably the default audio that came with your PC, and select 'enable'. If something like 'headphones' has the check mark right-click on it and select 'disable' once that is done you can enable another device. Hope this helps.

I've had similar problems with Win 10 doing the same thing. I have Win 10 on three computers and it happens only on my laptop. Clicking on the sound icon in the lower right hand corner you can turn it on. It doesn't always show that the sound is off until clicked. So far it has been random and it is easy to turn on but it can be disconcerting.

My sound is there, but it isn't steady. I sometimes have to turn it up to max to hear anything. At other times, it blasts too loud. I've played around with all the controls, but I'll try the link that Jerrylh gave.

That's been my experience, and the system sound and audio sound can vary widely. One will be too loud, while the other is too low.
Here's an FYI:
Last year I ran out of sound plug-in slots and looked for something else. In Ebay, (probably Amazon too), I found a small USB plug-in and the price was only a couple bucks and free shipping!
For that price I took a chance to see what it was.
It is a little plastic rectangular thing called "7.1 Channel Sound". It's only about 1" by 2" and plugs directly into a USB port.
It lets you plug inn a microphone and/or a small headset, lets you turn either one on or off too. Same type that fits a cell phone.
The best thing is that it really sounds great! All needed to do was to plug it in and it automatically started working.
A neat little toy for only a couple bucks. It took a slow boat to get here but turned out pretty good.
There is a guy on here who has ten computers and has never had a problem o nada single one. Seek him out, and all will be well.
