My D500 won't work with them. Which means I have to watch what I carry with me, unless I'm carrying the D800E.

That's the trend, but I bet the generic manufacturers will catch up, as they did with chips in printer cartridges.

I'm so glad I got rid of my Nikon and replaced it with a Canon with no associated problems!

Actually Wasabi battries for the 5DMk3, 7D, 7DMk2,ect (LP-E6) are coded battery's and work with no restrictions and are longer lasting then the OEM's from Canon I have used them now for a few years, I recommend them as a best alternative for the price!

 So you never had an issue with your Canon? I did and it happened 2 months after the warranty. I went on line and hundreds of people ha the same problem with lens error code. Sold my Canon and bought Nikon and never had a problem.

That's what you get for using Japanese horseradish instead of a battery...

Nikons, Canons, I use a Sony. And if they still made Kodachrome I'd probably still use my old Pentax K1000.

I use name brand and third party batteries in two cameras . Both out of warranty. If Wasabi batteries don't work on the new D500, it most likely was acknowledged by Nikon on this particular battery in the beginning. Nikon doesn't want to lose money from third party competitors, for now. Besides I wouldn't put any third party battery in a brand new $2000 camera still under warranty. Regardless of its reliability. You're paying only about $20 less than the Nikon Brand battery.

I paid $25 for two batteries plus a charger. They work fine on my $3500 D800E. DSLR sales are declining. Obnoxious moves like this by manufacturers will not improve their sales.
