I adore this image, Frank!
I just read a timely article on what's important in an image:
http://photographylife.com/whats-important-in-a-photograph-and-what-isntSo my critique based on their list:
Emotion - 10 of 10. Playful, sweet, charming. Makes you want to be a kid again :)
Light - 7 of 10. I'd love to see backlighting haloing those golden curls. But the flat light allows us to concentrate on the other elements and doesn't steal the show.
Composition - 10 of 10. Low angle, eye-level with the subject, showing grass to help establish the setting, child and blanket filling the frame. Not an inch of irrelevant elements or space. Outstanding!
Creativity - 10 of 10. I don't recall a photo such as this in the 8 billion I've viewed on UHH.
Timing - If a staged shot, not applicable.
Context - 10 of 10. You, the subject, and we are all lying in the grass. I can feel the dew seeping in :)
Layers (depth and/or storytelling) - 10 of 10. Three physical layers: the out of focus foreground, 2. the star of this show, and finally, the out of focus background. Perfect.
Did'nt feel the need to read another persons ideas Frank my man. I just know when an image has hit the sweet spot and you have achieved that here.
So I cannot and will not break it down into why its good just take the word of an old snapper that you have a shot you can be truly proud of.
Aw Frank - this is Beautiful. She is, and so is the image. What a tangled mess and those eyes can get whatever she wants. Just love the peeping from behind the blanket. Wonderful!!!

Thank you Mr. Spad., I like it. It's good to hear it from someone else though. I thought I might be a little prejudiced towards it.

Nice shot. Glad you got down on the ground for it. However, the out of focus grass in the foreground is distracting. I would crop the bottom and then try to clone out the rest. Next time, watch out for anything between the subject and you that gets in the way. I know kids do not stay still for long.

I disagree. The grass gives a sense of place. It also serves to lead to the hair and eyes. Removal or recomposition will place the child in a vacuum whereas in the current state we can easily imagine her energizing for Round 2.
Congratulations on seeking a different perspective other than eye level. This works very well. I would agree with Linda's assessment. My only suggestion is to expand on the top. This would move the eyes more into the frame, creating less tension at the top.

Thanks for comment abc but I purposely got down in the grass...to each our own I guess.
