Well, everyone, I don't know how you feel about our getting new software for our forum, but I love the idea ! After reading the administrator's listings that describe many of the changes that are to be made, I have nothing but praise for our administrator and am sure that I will be giving the new software a rave review once I begin using it !

Hopefully, you all will feel the same about the upcoming changes that are soon to be made and from that which I have read about them, we will find that each and everyone of us will truly benefit in one way or another from them ! If I were bald and wore a hat, I'd surely take it off for our administrator ! :):):)

Best regards to all,
~ Doug ~

This is the first that I have heard about any software changes.

Please post a link to where you got this information, so that we can be educated about the changes.

Goodbye to trolls, thank goodness.

The global Unwatch delete feature I will appreciate.

The streamlining makes sense.

We shall see.

I would like to see a new section added for abstracts. It seems that there are more and more of them cropping up on the forum, especially since Christmas, that there would be enough traffic to sustain their own section.

I agree with the updates proposed, I'll just have to remember to mark a topic as watched, if I want to follow to after commenting.

Agree with a section for abstracts. This branch of photography does distinguish itself by its subject matter presenting a simplification generally without a natural reference or context.

I am looking forward to them also.
I am sure that there will be complaints, some people are opposed to change and are disturbed by anything new and different. I hope those complaints are not taken to heart.

Notice that admin does not say what will not remain. I hope this gets tested with a select few before rolling out.

If I recall correctly the new software will only allow you to quote 500 characters. That's maybe 70 or 80 or so average words. While all too often people quote long posts with a one line response, we also quote to respond to posts point for point, and without the entire post quoted it will be difficult to respond to several detailed questions. Additionally, people will sometimes post outrageous, uniformed, or just plain wrong information at fact. One would not be able to respond properly to such a post if all the details of it are not there to be seen by others. Third a short quote of a longer post may change the meaning or leave out critical components of the post being quoted. Other than that concern I look forward to the new interface, but I hope in the end it's more than change for the sake of change and adds real value rather than just a pretty new face.

Did anyone see a date as to when the new software comes online?

I agree. Admin's description of the changes indicates some pretty "neat" upgrades.

mwsilvers,

There is a simple solution to your concern, I have seen it on other forums. Include the first 500 words, clip the rest, then insert a link to read more. I hope Admin reads these ideas and concerns.
