from a critique point of view, I dislike that ferry centered. I like the alternating layers of color and tone very much.

From a comment point of view, if this was just taken, those mountains are tall, and they hold their cold a long time. A very beautiful country that you live in,

I dislike the ferry centered too. Unfortunately, at the time, that was the choice I had. Thought it was better to leave it in as-is rather than take it out. Photo taken May 2, 2016. Highest mountain in the range is Mt. Olympus at 7,900 ft. They look tall 'cause they start out at sea level. Several glaciers in the range.

So, why don't I crop off the left side and move the ferry off-center???

On a rough morning for me, your last comment/question certainly put a smile on my face and produced a chuckle that my wife commented on.

:) But then to top it off I cropped the wrong image and posted it. Much noise in mountains and sky. Didn't catch it until I printed it. I go through more than my share of ink doing mistakes like this

We have quite a few folks on this forum who make mistakes. We are all hoomin beans. Even "St. AA" made a mistake when he photographed a moonrise and he didn't have even a spectacular scene or a moving ferry boat to distract him !

There is not much you can do with this image other than to re-shoot it. The time of day is near noon and the image is pretty flat and quite noisy. Blue dominates the image. The sky is simply dull, no clouds, which is almost a necessity for such colored landscape/seascape images. In such cases though, consider adding more of the foreground ocean and less of the sky. But that being said, the time of day and light plays such an important role in photography. Shot early or late in the day, this image would look entirely different. And yes, I would agree to offset the ship to the left.

Mark, you are correct on all counts. This shot is only worth more than passing interest because of the view. I've been looking for a "best" view to represent the Olympic Mountains from one location for several years, and this comes the closest, IMO. This particular shot had to rely on PP for the mountains to be visible through the heavy haze.

BTW, adding more ocean in the foreground in this case was not possible because the side of the ferry was blocking. :) Now all I have to do is be on Kingston bound boat leaving Edmonds around sunrise on a day with scattered clouds and minimal haze, and go top-side. :D
