I am thinking about replacing my 7D with the new model. I got it about 10 months before the 7D II came out. Take all kinds of pictures sports, landscape, wildlife, portraits. I don't use it for video at all. I am going back and forth. Some reviews make me think "do it" then I will read another than makes me think "Not worth it." Any feed back from people who have used both would be grateful.
I have owned both, and I think my upgrade to the II was definitely worth it. Better file, better focusing.

I'm also in the same situation and am wondering if it is really worth it. I use Topaz DeNoise and it does a pretty good job on getting the noise out of the photos....Rich
I agree. Significant improvement.

I have a 7D II and its a great body, but if portraits and landscapes are more important than sports and wildlife, then you will be better served with a FF body like the Canon 6D or the 5D III.. If you will be using it equally for everything, then by all means get it. Just be aware that there are much better options for portraits and landscapes.
thanks, that was helpful. I do alot more action shots.
thanks for your comments.

Agree! I upgraded from the 7D to the 7D Mark II and clearly the M2 is better in many respects. That said, the 7D was no slouch and I probably would have been fine had I just kept the 7D, but the GAS was too strong to resist. For portraits and landscapes, I ended up with a refurbished 6D as a second body.

thanks, I saw that after I posted it.
For action photography, the difference in the AF between these two models is quite a bit. There is a sizable learning curve for the 7D MK II. It tracks a subject so much better because of the many AF points. The AF reacts far quicker than the AF on the original 7D. You do not gain anything mega-pixel wise- going from 18 to 20. The high ISO performance has improved quite a bit of the original 7D, enough that it is easily noticeable.
If action photography is your thing and you do not mind spending time learning the new AF system, the 7D MK II is a worthwhile update.

Also you don't really have to thank each person separately for their comments unless you are responding with a customized response to specific posts. A general thanks is all that's needed. I recall a thread started by a new member some time back with 20 or 30 responses followed by 20 or 30 separate thank you's posted one after after. The intention is good, but its really not necessary and can actually be a bit annoying if there are too many individual thank you's with no substance to read through.

Ratty, keep in mind that the 7ll will do ANYTHING a 6D can do, BUT, a 6D can only do about 1/3 of what the 7ll can do. Give me a 7ll for portraits any day over a 6D, it will do a better job overall, I've use a 7ll a lot for portraits. It's a great portrait camera.
Now a 5lll is a formidable camera and can handle most sports almost as well as a 7ll.
I own a 7ll and shoot sports as much with a 5Ds as the 7ll. Where the 5ds will work it's an AWSOME sports camera, as is the 5lll.
If you can only have one, get the 7ll. The 6d will really limit your photography to things that don't move! Good luck. ;-)

Definitely worth the upgrade. If you want me to recycle your 7D for you I'll do it for nothing and pay the postage!
