Hi, my name is Bill, I'm not a professional, but I sure like photography. I have one question when I go on a photo shoot I will take anywhere from 250 to 500 pictures (wildlife) and if I can get 5 great shots out of this group, I feel like I had a good day. So my question is does that sound about right or I'm I just a lousy photographer?

Some days one may be lucky to get 5 great shots out of 1000 or 2000. Then there are some days one can shoot 50 or 100 and 10 or 15 are great. One should just keep trying for 100% great shots, pretty much the impossible dream.

By the way, I really like your snake shot. The color contrast really makes the shot.

I was just going to send you the same quote Mubashm sent! I do the same thing. I photograph birds and I throw out 90% of what I shoot normally because the bird is moving, camera blur or duplication...

Welcome to the hog.
Look at what you are throwing out. Maybe plan from those results?

Welcome to the group! I end up deleting most of the photos I take when I get back from a photo shoot. Your ratio sounds about right. The tree in your photo divides the photo in two. I would be good to keep shooting until the snake is clear of the tree or shoot from a different vantage point.

Welcome to the forum, Bill! Depends what I'm shooting, but I'm pleased if one in ten are worth doing up.

Welcome to our forum!

I'd like to get more than five good shots out of 500, but the point is to get shots you like. You're not spending money for film, so shoot away. We all have different standards. I might think you have 100 good shots.

I usually average 20-25 per hundred. The balance are usually technically correct or correctable but the composition is lacking.

The only ones that count are those that you keep. Doesn't matter how many you delete.
