Had D500 with 200-500 plus 1.4 set up for birding and took this inappropriate shot at 280mm. Short as I could go and on moving boat.
Right out of camera, shot in jpeg. Got wrong pic in first,so just added castle.

Interesting character! Played Sherlock Holmes in the late 1800's,early 1900's. Started the bent pipe/hat persona and his contributions to lighting and sound effects were innovative contributions to theater. Built this house for his wife. Now a State Park with gorgeous grounds.

At one time the castle was to become a new restaurant. Did that happen?

I hadn't heard that, but at any rate it has been a state park since 1943. In 1998 a huge four year restoration of the "house" and it's 180 some odd acres was started. Beautiful job with tons of visitors.

I've been there a few times. I was there one year on Halloween and there was a guy strolling around dressed as Sherlock Holmes with a few other people in period costumes.

I'm afraid I'd have to get a little boat if I lived in your town!

:)
