The Defeated (Dam Birds!)

ABC asked about a photo of the dam bird who came up short in the confrontation http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-384776-1.html photo story I posted yesterday.

I knew he flew off and went to roost high inside the dam structure after he lost his bid for King of the Dam, but I forgot I tried a few tracking shots as he departed. Looked back through today and found this one, and liked how he framed himself in one of the strange almost geometric building blocks of the structure. All feedback appreciated. The contrast was harsher here, and I emphasized that instead of mitigating it, wondering how that seems? And also, Should this be part of the sequence?

That's a neat shot. It looks as if somebody has stuck a large photo of the bird on the dam. I wonder if it should be cropped a bit at the top so that the top block is removed.

I like it a lot.

Holy Cow - are you sure you didn't just photoshop this, and now are trying to fool us? Just kidding - this is great.

I feel this one is a stand alone image. If it were me I wouldn't include it with the other three. Just my opinion though, which it is an excellent shot by the way.

I think the trio of shots tells a very distinct visual story of the bird interaction, and this one doesn't fit (or add anything to) that vignette.

I hate to say, but I think this would work better with just the stationary bird. Capturing the one in flight in the spot you did will surely lead to speculation of "photoshopped!" And while there's nothing wrong with that - lol - it does make it a different experience when viewing.

The architecture and light is really the star of this particular show in my opinion.

after a bit of thought...here's a curiosity: a quick conversion in a free Chromebook app and I'm really liking the flyer! Will have to come back to this breakthrough after coffee and breakfast :)

Thank you. I wondered about cropping down to the top of the larger light triangle. The image is more about geometry than about birds!

Thanks! No photoshop here, just the dam birds doing what they do and me using that burst mode that I never use, and getting a lucky shot.

Thank you Dave. It doesn't quite fit the sequence, but since it does have a connection, I wondered what others thought.

This one is more about shapes, while the others were more about the birds.

Thanks for the feedback, Linda! I do a lot of the dam birds in monochrome, more often than in color, but this particular morning got attached to the coral and blue color palette that mother nature provided. Never hurts to have multiple versions, I do that with lots of images, and I'll try a monochrome with this guy. I would never photoshop him out! I'll probably never again get a reasonably sharp dam bird centered so perfectly over one of those small openings in good light!!

I like the shot but the shot I would select is the lone bird on the steps. I think from different perspective would have rendered a powerful black and white. None the less, quite unique.

Thanks Mark. It was a lucky shot so it is what it is. I have some better versions of the lone guys on the steps, this fellow is a little soft since I was focusing on the one in flight. The birds on those steps that go nowhere were the first thing that got me stuck on the dam birds. And I can never resist taking more!

Very interesting place to take photos. The birds, being all fuzzy and feathers, introduce a lot of contrast to the concrete and pylons. And, what a lucky shot!! Congrats.

The contrast between the birds and the place they have homesteaded is so intriguing to me.

Thanks for dropping by!

You'll be sick of these dam birds before it is done.
