CF card no longer recognized by computer

I have been using two SanDisk Extreme Pro 32 g cards in a d800 for a few years and downloading through a card reader into LR on a MacBookPro. I recently went to a workshop at Maine Media and used my cards from my camera and downloaded images through their card reader into LR on a brand new iMac. When I got home I put the cards into my card reader and my computer could not read either card. If I left the card in the camera and plugged it into the usb port on the computer it was read fine. I find it difficult to believe that my card reader went bad sitting on my shelf for a week. Does anyone have any thoughts?

My built-in card reader doesn't work anymore. I bought a universal USB card reader for about $16. Works fine. In the interim, waiting for it to ship, I hooked up a USB cable to the camera directly and downloaded with the card still in the camera. THere are a lot of ways to get around the problem.

Thanks, I can get around the problem by downloading directly from the camera, slowly, but I want to fix the problem. I think when I put the card into the reader on the new computer it was somehow reformatted and given a new drive name which my computer doesn't recognize. I am hoping the Apple techs can tell me how to get the cards recognized as new drives.

This is why I do not use Mac. In striving to make things as easy as possible, it does things without telling you. Jobs was very narrow minded in that the only way was his way and he knew better than anyone else. No wonder Mac's languished around 8% of the world market. If Mac's were so good, how come the buying public never crowned it as the winner of market share?

Make sure the card is not write-protected. As long as you have everything off the card, reformat it in the camera, not the computer. If that does not work, reformat in the computer. And if that does not do it, do not risk using it further and throw it away.

Bullfrog,

After you have considered all the advise in your thread contact SanDisk directly, they should have a recovery app you can install on your Mac to restore the disk to its original format.

Check your card reader for a bent pin.
