I have about a thousand slides that my Dad took, and a couple hundred I took.
Most of the slides are 35mm,and some are larger Ektachromes.
I also have 35mm b&w negatives and b&w negatives from my Rolliflex.
Could I have some advice on which slide viewer/converter to get so I can digitize the slides and negatives?I get all teary-eyed looking at them, but I want to make a digital scrapbook of my family and share it with my nieces and their kids.
Thank you to all who answer!
It sounds like you need the Epson V-500 Scanner to do this trick. It will handle your 35mm slides, as well as your Rollei negs and slides. Be aware this magic does not happen instantaneously, 1,000 slides will take you several days. The results, however, are excellent!
The "slide viewer/converters" I have tried have all been very disappointing, to say the least.
B&H is showing this scanner at less than $150 right now, pretty good deal. Sometimes you can find one refurbished direct from Epson, which might be even a better deal.
I sent mine out to a company called Dig My Pics. For .39 cents a slide they cleaned them up, scanned, and sent me a high resolution DVD and a lo resolution CD. Since I no longer will be taking slide shots, I felt that was the best way to go.
I brought mine to a local camera store, and they did an excellent job of converting them for about $0.42 each. There are many companies that will do the conversion for a lower price. I would never even consider doing 1,000 slides on my scanner. I have old photos I have been scanning, and it's no fun.

Thank you to all who offered advice. Appreciate it! Haven't decided which method to use yet!
I only have 35mm slides and negatives so I purchased the epson v330. So far I have scanned over 3000 slides and negatives. I just took my time and scanned my images over about a month. I enjoyed the process, got to examine pictures I had not looked at for years and now have all of my pics on my computer.
Getting your collection digitized is a time consuming process even if you have a service do it for you. You still have to go through them all and decide what to keep and what to toss. By doing it myself I kept everything even those that were not technically good, many had sentimental value. For me it was an easy decision - $1200+ for a service to do it or $150 for the scanner and some of my time.
How many slides did you have that would cost $1200?
So far I have scanned 3166 images from slides and negatives. 3166 times .42 = $1329.72
Thanks, I don't have enough to make it work fo me.

I'm still scanning. The one thing I will add is do not buy those cheap ones you see advertised everywhere. I have one that is totally worthless, then bought a Canon flatbed that is wonderful. I haven't kept up on the latest ones. Unless your slides are in mint condition (not faded or scratched) it is really helpful to have the scanning software provide some scratch, dust, and fade correction.
