I'd rather be shooting weddings

This is why I shoot weddings.

I put the dock in on Saturday (air temp 59 degrees, not sure of the water temp, but when I got out, I thought about changing my name to Caitlin...guys, you know what I mean)

Mowed the lawn at the lake cottage, then mowed our back lot, then mowed the neighbor's (much larger) lot. Sunday, I mowed another neighbor's lot (also larger than my lot with back lot combined), went back into town, mowed my parents' yard, then mowed my own yard.

I started smelling bacon!!!
Sunburn to beat all sunburns. The top of my head looks like I'm wearing a red ski cap.

When I'm shooting weddings, I'm never THIS tired. I need to book a wedding to relax.

Hopefully, some of you worked a wedding over the weekend, and have something to share.

Book one on Sunday. I always meet my couples for Breakfast at, in order of importance, Cracker, IHOP, Denny's. This couple was great. She is funneling me idea photos. Love this type of interaction. The guy has a HUGE truck he calls 'baby'. It is planned to be in a number of photos. Sort of like this.

BTW, We did Denny's. the waitress was hanging over the bride-2-be's shoulder also looking at my portfolio. She was funny.

I shot my stepson's wedding a few years ago, he's a Jeep nut. The RC Jeep was used to deliver the rings at the appropriate moment.

Thank you! The best man is my eldest stepson.

This looks like my kind of couple!
Of course, it conflicts with the "trying to keep it elegant", but I struggle with my personality of wanting everything to be fun and memorable, vs. beautiful and elegant. I think a nice mix works.

Thanks for sharing.

Love these, and the ideas. Is it wrong of me for the first thought in my head to be: "if I got on the ground to take that shot, it would take the rest of the reception for me to get back up"

I always do both sides at a wedding. The classic comes naturally, you have to stretch yourself for the funny.

I have it down to about 10 min. (getting back up) However, by that time everyone has moved on.

The unfortunate noises I make when trying to get back up, scare people away

Bobbee, I must be on UHH too much. I actually remember the first time you posted this photo. Loved it then, still do.

I've done the same thing, except with bridesmaids holding the groom, then in the next shot, I have him on the floor, and the girls all looking embarrassed. Those have made it in a few albums. I could see your shot first, then the other two in a triptych or something.

I never sat down and tried to figure out how many weddings I shot in my lifetime- probably thousands. Back in New York City, when I started out, I was shooting 7 days a week; the so-called "society weddings" and ultra-orthodox Jewish weddings were on weekdays and I can hardly remember having a weekend off. At one stage of my career, I worked as a manager and chief photographer in "wedding factory" - we did 2,400 events each year- what a rat race! Good thing I was young and strong and did not require much sleep! Just managing a staff of 15 shooters plus the weekend stringers was one heck of a job. We had quite the talent pool but most of them were "crazy" and most of them were old enough to be my father and some had egos the size of Brooklyn!

Nowadays the weddings are a relatively small percentage of my business- I do mostly commercial photography and leave the a good part of the wedding assignments to my younger employees but still work most of the weekends in the summer season. I no longer feel "guilty" when I take a weekend off and spend some time with the family. Bad habits die hard!

I never sat down and tried to figure out how many ... (show quote)

I hear you. I have a lake cottage to go to, but I still find it very hard to let go of weddings, or scheduling shoots for a Saturday morning. For me, what's the point of being a "weekend warrior" if I don't do something on the weekend? That being said, this last few months (since my business partner's health went south) have been kind of nice. I "could" get used to a few free Saturdays. Of course, I now have the next 3 Saturdays booked for various things, so... Old habits, and all that :-)
