I'm curious, why are you copying someone else's image? S-

The same reason you click on the "download" button.

I don't normally copy anyone's images but I did try one and the copy and paste works just fine. Using Windows 7.

I click (Download) for a larger view, but would not copy someone's image without their consent. There's a word for that... S-

I am not copying the images and then printing them out and calling them my own if that what you mean. I copy and paste the images to a file on fastone called uhher"s favorites for my own educational purposes so i can look at the exif data to see at what settings a part. photo was taken. Your statement is kind of accusatory!

Every time you view an image it was necessarily copied to your computer first. So this "copy and paste" is inescapable.

The question is how to do it best for any given purpose. A 600 pixel wide thumbnail, which is what you see in an article posted to the forum, is sufficient for a quick preview, but not for either an in depth analysis nor for any kind of productive editing. For those purposes it is best to have the OP select the "(store original)" button which will post the image with a "Download" button. A user clicking on that will get a full sized image. Among the benefits of downloading a copy in that way is the ability to extract Exif data, which UHH strips from the thumbnail.

My statement was of curiosity, especially when you hear of someone copying images on a photography website.

And now that your intention has been made, are you aware of the My Bookmarks function at the top of the page? S-

Two words: Legal and smart.

You very clearly copy images to your computer on a regular basis without explicit concent. And of course any image posted to the Internet carries an implied concent to download it.

Don't confuse redistribution, which is likely a copyright infringement, with downloading which is not!

I'm curious why you'd say this. S-

Because it is true!

You commonly, as do most users, comment on posted images. Obviously you download and view those images... All of them have an implied permission to download but very few include the explicit permission you have suggested for the OP in this thread.

Not even the implicit permission is required legally.

Okay? If you say so then it must be true... Cheers. S-

Hey, they are number of reasons why someone would want to make a copy of an image. To name a few, there are posted cartoons, jokes, I can copy an image for my own reference. You just see a guy copying your price image, making millions of prints, spreading a blanket on his front lawn and selling your top notch work for millions of dollars. You want to throw the guy in jail and crucify him.
If you don't have a constructive answer for his technical question, then just keep quiet.

Not the case. The Copyright Law and the courts say that is true.

Nobody in the US has lost a case based on that interpretation. But you are welcome to research the issue and try to find even a single instance.

If take the time to look above you will see that I did have a constructive answer for his 'technical question.'

But sure, let's just let people copy images here without asking why. It's not like it's a photography site or anything.

Cheers. S-
