Coopers Hawk Eating lunch

This was a unique situation. I was watching an eagles nest and this Coopers Hawk got it self something to eat. It was about 15' away from me on the ground and stayed there until it finished its meal about 20 min. What a rush. :-D No eagle today.

That's not a Coopers hawk .....but who needs Eagles when can have a hawk at 15 feet ! Thanks for sharing !

OK!! What bird ID do you think it is. It does not have any red tail feathers in other photos I have.

I am not SURE - it is definitely a juvie - I say Red Tail - the lack of coloring at the top of the breast/neck area is the defining feature IMO.

Thanks imagemeister, I was just looking at the mature red tail. Didn't think about juvenile (senior moment at 72) .Low and behold the juvi picture looks like my photo. Red Tail Hawk it is.

This is a very nice shot. I agree it is prob. a juv. Red-tailed but I'm unfamiliar with eastern variations. He gave your 20 min, you must have more! Beautiful bird, well done.
