Just kidding, 'cause I ain't takin' no trip to moon !

Yeh, I know, poor grammar and total stupidity is being used here which is no different than those individuals who seem to always want to ask what lenses or cameras they need when they are planning a trip to Alaska, South America, Africa, or just about any foreign country ?

Why is it that some people think they need something spectacular to take along with them when they leave home ? Are not the cameras and lenses they use here at home good enough for distant trips ? Why the need for something special ? Any thoughts ?

My first thought is that they could care less about what camera or lenses they need, but, rather, what they really are doing is wanting to brag about the trip they are about to take !

One of my wife's uncles, has special lenses that he packs for trips to America--the kit lenses. He leaves the L lenses at home.

So true, it also applies to new cameras and lens.

I'll be going to South Jersey in the near future, should I purchase lenses more tolerant to warmer weather or just wrap the ones I have in insulation? :)

In a few years, that will be a serious question.

Put the lens inside a PVC pipe that is about 2" larger diameter than the lens. Shoot some expanding foam insulation in there and wait for it to harden. Trim away the excess foam, paint the PVC black, add some white lens markings, and you're ready for that trip south.

Thanks Jerry, I knew you'd come through... :) I should probably fill the mirror box with foam also...just to be safe...

That's what I was going to say. Hassy is already there. NASA had several bodies on each of the Lunar Landers and they left the bodies and lenses on the moon. They just returned the film back in an effort to exchange the weight of the abandoned cameras for additional moon rocks etc. for the return trip to earth. There would really be no need to take a camera, just lenses and film (or data now) backs. You might also need to take some batteries. The only downside here would be getting there and finding that the cameras were unusable due to dust, cold, heat, or a random meteor strike on the body or it's general location. So, if you were making the trip, I would take a spare camera just in case.

Wouldn't they be in the part of the lander that gets left behind and gets toasted when the rocket engine kicks in? Those camera's may in worse condition than you think.
